#2020polls: ‘Outcast’ Fomena MP retains seat as independent candidate

Fomena MP Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who was declared an outcast in Parliament by Speaker Prof Mike Oquaye, after the lawmaker got sacked from his party, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), for deciding to run as an independent candidate in the just-ended general elections, has retained his seat.

He polled 12,805 votes to beat the NPP’s Philip Ofori Asante – 10,798 and NDC’s Christina Ama – 2,608.

Another candidate, Apiagyei, polled 168 votes.

The total number of valid votes cast was 26,369.

Some 247 ballots got rejected.

The total number of votes cast was 26,615.

In the presidential race, President Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP polled 19,224 to beat former President John Mahama of the NDC, who polled 6,457 votes.
