Sean Smith, 16, wrote and had sent the note while on holiday in the eastern US state of Rhode Island in 2018.
His message read: “It is Thanksgiving. I am 13 and visiting family in Rhode Island. I am from Vermont. If found email messageinabottle2018@gmail.com.”
Three years on, the message has been found more than 3,000 miles (4,820 km) away.
Sean Smith stated that this bottle was one of the several he threw into the ocean.Christian Santos, 17, discovered the bottle in the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago in the mid-Atlantic and his mother posted it on social media so they would be able to reach Sean Smith.A week later, Sean saw a news report about the discovery of his message.
Now Sean has a memory – and possibly a friend – he’ll never forget.
