Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah is “open” to playing for Ghana

Sports

Arsenal forward, Eddie Nketiah, is keeping his options open in terms of his senior international football career and has said that he will welcome the prospect of playing for Ghana or England at the highest level.

The player can feature for either Ghana by virtue of his parents or can play for England to complete the journey with the Three Lions since he has worn their colors all through youth level.

Nketiah’s name has surfaced in conversations concerning the Black Stars after the team booked its ticket to the 2022 World Cup in March.

He is said to be on the wish list of the Ghana FA as it looks at players who can be added to the current national team setup ahead of the World Cup but he is yet to commit to a decision and he made his thoughts clear on the Beautiful Game podcast that aired on YouTube on April 19.

“My parents are both Ghanaian. It’s a possibility. I am open to both – playing for Ghana or England as well.

Being from Ghana, you are obviously happy they have qualified for the World Cup. I know players like [Thomas] Partey and I am happy for them. Thomas has been in my ear about playing for Ghana.

My club situation is the priority. At the moment, my full focus is on my club [Arsenal] and making sure I sort out things for next season.

Once that’s finished, then I can sit down and have that discussion with my family. It’s open to both [countries] and I am not closing the door to anything and it is great to have the chance to do so.

Nketiah is currently in discussions with Arsenal over his future after making only fourteen appearances in the league.
