Asante Kotoko sign teenager Isaac Oppong nicknamed ‘Sunyani Neymar’

Sports

Asante Kotoko continued boosting their rank of emerging talents with the signing of teenager Isaac Oppong.

The wing-forward, 18, is yet another scoop from the lower ranks in the Porcupine Warriors’ transfer strategy ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Oppong was scouted from the Sunyani zone of the Ghana Division Two League where he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 17 games for Bectero Sassana FC who were beaten in the last hurdle to the promotional playoff final.

Technically gifted Oppong has been likened to Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar.

Kotoko signed the youngster for four years with a renewal option.

The two-time African champions announced the new signing Sunday night:

Oppong becomes the second player after Samuel Boateng to join Kotoko from the Ghanaian third-tier.

Two other players – Maxwell Kofi Agyemang and Clinton Opoku were also signed after shining in the second tier just last season

Richmond Lamptey was the first club’s signing from relegated Ghana Premier League side Inter Allies.

Medeama SC duo Richard Boadu and Samuel Appiah are also in line to be officially announced soon.
