Behind the Scenes

Tuesday Thrills

Lessons are learnt from the most trivial things, if only one is willing to humbly learn.

One sunny morning, I had the opportunity to attend a well-known seminar, which took place in one of the renowned places in Accra. Immediately I arrived at the communicated venue, I was blown away by its flawlessness– the floor was sparkling clean, to the extent that I could vividly see my reflection, the seats had no filth, and the decorations were spot on. The environs of the place provided a comfortable surrounding for a great seminar. After the seminar, I was interested in how the place spelled out beauty, so I tried to get information on the event planners or decorators of the seminar, and I was led to Mrs. Lina Adams, the Chief Organiser of the seminar. I congratulated her on the distinct decor and amazing setup, and she was actually glad that the beauty of the place was acknowledged.
“I’m extremely glad you appreciate the entire setup, ma’am. I’ve actually lost about five members of my team to some injuries, because of this great setup.” She told me.

“You don’t say!” I exclaimed.
She picked out her phone, and played me a video of how the entire setup happened. As I watched, I realized how extremely excited they were as a team, and how they worked with so much energy, until suddenly, one young man got a shock from an electric wire, another slipped and fell, due to the wet floor, another also got some bruises from carrying what seemed like a heavyweight equipment, a young lady missed a step when climbing the ladder, hence, hit against it so hard– she might have attained a lumpy bruise, and this went on and on. “Wow.” I could only say for a while. “All these happened, so that this can happen?” I questioned, as I looked around, admiring the setup one last time.

A lot of things happen in the shadows of success.” She told me with a smile. “For a balloon to get big enough into the shape one wants, one must blow more air into it. Some want the balloon, but do not want to give their air. The same way people desire to be the lady on television, but have a problem with the fact that they have to sacrifice their sleep. Others desire to be more than Elijah, but don’t want to go through the labour of Elisha. What they miss is that the process is as much significant as the success, or even more, because in the process, the success is actualized.” Mrs. Adams relayed so much insight.

“This reminds me of the words of a renowned preacher, who said, ‘if you don’t know my story, don’t envy my glory’…” I let out, and she nodded immediately.

“Exactly!” She slightly chuckled. “The turmoils define the success. The process isn’t the paths of easy convenience many have created, but the process entails a rough road of ups and downs, and only those who patiently persevere will reap the final victory. The members of my team were injured, but those who fell, rose up and those who got bruised, manned up. You might be limping, but you will soon be leaping, and you don’t have to take someone’s leg to do that. You must only wait your turn, because behind the scenes; miracles, breakthroughs and successes are explicitly defined.” She looked at her watch, and smiled, “I have to get going.”

“You would have been a life-changing speaker at the seminar.” I complimented.

“Well, maybe, someday.” She giggled, and bid me farewell.
