Ghana’s New Anti LGBT Bill Draft sparks public outrage.

A new Anti LGBTQ+ Bill will make it illegal to partake or sympathize with persons from the LGBTQ+ community is being brought before Government for approval.

The Anti LGBTQ+ Bill is sponsored by Hon. Della Adjoa Sowah (MP for Kpando), Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah (MP for Ho West), Hon. John Ntim Forjour (MP for Assin South), Hon. Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini (MP for Tamale North), Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah (MP for La Dadekotopon), Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso (MP for Krachi West), Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP of Ningo-Prampram) and Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (MP for South Dayi).

The object of the Anti LGBTQ+ Bill is to define the accepted human sexual rights according to Ghanaian Family Values. The Anti LGBTQ+ Bill states the punishment culprits will receive if found guilty of conducting any offense in the Anti LGBTQ+ Bill.

The 25 clause document lays out what type of activities or sexual conduct are considered offenses according to the LGBTQ+ Bill. Most Ghanaians have taken to social media to express their opinion concerning the Anti LGBTQ+ Bill, this has opened the forum for people to express their views on their thoughts on the Bill.

Social Media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram have hashtag Anti Gay or Anti LGBT+ trending with users talking about the draft in numerous posts. Many of them fear there will be retribution for Ghana if the bill is passed since it might be a violation of the Fundamental Human Rights; The right to love: a Right people of the LGBTQ+ Community believe they are been deprived of.

Although, copies of the Bill are circulating only a few clauses are being scrutinized due to the controversy surrounding their interpretation. Hopefully, when the Bill is presented to Parliament more aspects of the Bill will be properly interpreted.
