ADUANA STARS vs HEARTS OF OAK (SUSPENDED)

Aduana Stars, who led the league table until its truncation, will lock horns with 109 year-old Accra Hearts of Oak in the curtain raiser for the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League. The feisty and tantalizing encounter will welcome football loving fans across the length and breadth of the country to a new season, after the league was cut short about 8 months ago.

The Dormaa lads have always posed a potent threat to teams who habour title ambitions. During the off season, they focused more on harmonizing their team efforts in training than resorting to the transfer market for talent. Their belief in Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin and the current squad is commendable and hopefully, should produce some positive results this term despite losing influential midfielder Elvis Opoku to Legon Cities.

Accra Hearts of Oak, fresh from celebrating 109 years of existence will seek to crown the celebrations with a scalp over Aduana Stars in the latter’s own background. A stalemate was recorded the last time the Phobians visited Dormaa. With that in mind, Coach Edward Odoom will have a lot of positive anticipation and hope to commence the season very well. From Niger, Abdourahmane Lawali may be called upon to represent the Phobians. Abednego Tetteh and Abdul Aziz Nurudeen will be absent after testing positive for Covid 19.

LEGON CITIES vs BEREKUM CHELSEA

Accra Based Legon Cities showed a lot of activity in the transfer market with a number of quality signings. Notable among them was Black Stars’ general captain, Asamoah Gyan. This spending spree has increased the weight of expectations from the general footballing fraternity and the club’s fans. As cagey as the encounter will be for the nouveau riche outfit, quality in their ranks, as well as squad depth should play to the advantage of coach Goran Barjaktarevic.

Berekum Chelsea will start off the new season with a new coach at the helm. 54 year old Michael Hesse Odamten will seek to make a positive impression in his first high profile appointment, after previous stints with St Mirren and Cheetah FC. He has available to him, new faces such as James Wiafe Iniesta, Alfred Okai Quaye, Edward Kpodo, Stephen Sarfo, Collins Ameyaw, and Mohammed Gouni. One thing remains certain: despite the squad revamp, the Berekum lads will definitely desire to make a positive impression ab initio.

ASHANTI GOLD vs KARELA

The Obuasi lads will kick off their season with a number of their seasoned players transferred out. James Akaminko, Safiu Mumuni and the likes all left the fold to newer adventures. That notwithstanding, making an impression as one of the teams to represent the country in one of the continental tourneys (CAF Confed Cup) is a must for the miners. Undoubtedly, they will need time to gel but with home advantage on their side, Ashgold cannot be ruled out for the win.

Karela United on the other hand, have had a great preseason and have also done some good transfer business. They are yet to record a win against Ashgold, with the previous encounters ending in 1-0 and 2-1 defeats. The off season form must be transferred to the league proper for them to stand a chance of making an impression. Former Kotoko midfielder, Umar Bashiru  and Prosper Avoh are some of the new names they hope will inspire their season and this encounter against Ashgold.

LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS vs BECHEM UNITED

Liberty Professionals have unfinished business with the visitors in their match day 1 fixture at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman. The two have been engaged in very tense and spectacular displays of football in recent years. Their main losses in terms of personnel will be the departure of Mubarak Alhassan to Granada in the Spanish League, and that of Elvis Kyei Baffour, who signed for Al Ain in the UAE. Though Bechem have been a stubborn opponent, home advantage must come in handy for the scientific soccer lads.

Bechem United on the other hand have proven to be an unrelenting prospect in the league. They placed a respectable 8th position before the league was truncated, having scored 15 goals in the 15 games they played. Prince Kwabena Adu will be their source of hope and danger in that promising encounter in Dansoman.

WAFA vs KING FAISAL

WAFA have proven in recent times to be the model in churning out talent on the Ghanaian football landscape. Not that alone, their displays are sometimes a spectacle to behold. Due to the talent pool at their disposal, it was expected that they will not make many high profile signings. Only two imports in the persons of Michael Kyei Dwamena and Godwin Agbevor were secured.

Bottom boys for the truncated league, King Faisal will attempt to reveal how their positive alterations both at the board level and playing body will translate to valuable points in the Ghana Premier League. A tough test for starters, WAFA present the Kumasi-based club the opportunity to make a statement for the fresh season. Osman Ibrahim has been recalled by his parent club Kotoko and that void needs to be filled.

EBUSUA DWARFS vs ELMINA SHARKS

A derby to behold and the first for the new season. Dwarfs and Sharks have been at each other’s throats in recent times and have served fans and neutrals with some frenetic football. Dwarfs can breathe easy again after the threat of administration was quelled days ago. One thing they need is a response to the few weeks of unsettling happenings. Dwarfs prepared for the season by playing all their friendlies against lower-tier sides. Derbies do not depend on form and the Cape Coast based side will cling on to this mantra.

The Sharks, on the other hand, were more active in the transfer market and have displayed glimpses of a team which desires to grab a position at the top levels of the league table. They brought in the experienced Daniel Nii Adjei, formerly of TP Mazembe as well as three other signings. They seem to mean business and that business must commence in a tough fixture.

MEDEAMA vs GREAT OLYMPICS

The Tarkwa outfit who are gradually making a name for themselves will welcome Great Olympics at the Akoon Park. They led the league table a number of times before the season was brought to a halt. Notable additions include Justice Blay who had a successful loan stay with the Porcupine Warriors. The likes of Akwasi Donsu, Eric Kwakwa and Michael Yeboah have remained on board and will be the bed rock to build great things this season, after the likes of Prince Opoku Agyeman moved on.

Olympics placed a respectable 10th in their last outing, though the season was not completed. There has been much hype about their preparations and ambition for the new season. Captain Gladson Awako and his team mates are upbeat about their chances in the new season. Their 1-0 loss at the same ground in their last encounter will be a lesson for the wonder club. An opportunity beckons to make amends against a team with solid prospects.

ASANTE KOTOKO vs ELEVEN WONDERS

The start of last season held much promise for many teams with the ambition of annexing the ultimate. The Porcupine Warriors have always been among that pack. Seasonal objectives can’t come in a more demanding fashion. The major loss for the team will be the departure of Justice Blay to his home team Medeama.  Kotoko’s transfer business should plug some of these holes created by the addition of 8 new players, including the brother of ex Ghana international, Sulley Ali Muntari. Competition for places is at an all-time high, a positive development for the team.

Eleven Wonders have also displayed some good performances in the past. They have always been a tough nut to crack, registering a defeat in the last encounter between them in December. Coach Ignatius Ofosu will require the safe pair of hands of John Moosie as well as the experience of Ashitey Ollennu and Tetteh Nortey to provide some resistance to Kotoko.

INTER ALLIES vs DREAMS

Inter Allies start the new season without their talisman from the past two seasons. Victorien Adebayor’s move leaves them short up front as the poacher’s goals helped them to a respectable standing of 11th last term. Micahel Kporvi and Emmanuel Adjetey will seek to fill those huge boots left by the Nigerien. Klinsmann Annan and Patrick Armah are a few of the young players who have received promotion to the senior side. Competition for spaces will do the squad more good than harm.

Dreams FC arguably made the capture of the transfer window when they landed Hearts of Oak’s Joseph Esso. In addition to him, Abel Manomey has joined ranks with them and will assist in pushing their top-4 ambition. The Monday encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium will be one to keep an eye on for the Dawu outfit. A win that will count for something is what they seek, after they lost to Inter Allies in the last encounter in Dawu.
