EBUSUA DWARFS vs ELEVEN WONDERS

Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs will play host to Eleven Wise in a crunch encounter in game week 19. Dwarfs will be aiming to get back to winning ways after suffering a narrow defeat at the hands of Elmina Sharks. The result puts them 12th on the league table and 5 points above the relegation zone. Dwarfs will need to take advantage of Eleven Wise’s poor away form.

Eleven Wise have won 2 out of the 3 encounters between the two teams, with the other encounter resulting in a draw. They lie 14th on the league table, taking 21 points out of a possible 54. Playing out a one all draw against the porcupine warriors will lift their morale a notch higher, but they will need to remedy their away from if they are to get anything from this match.

LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS vs ELMINA SHARKS

Liberty Professionals are heading ever nearer to second tier football. Their defeat at Bechem over the weekend has set off real alarm bells, after recording a 4th straight defeat and with no wins in five, leaving them rooted in the relegation zone with 4 points off safety. Their reliant home form at the Carl Reindorf has been a misgiving, recording just 2 victories out of a possible 8, leaving them bottom of the ‘Home league table’. However, their next task on paper, which will be played at the said venue should give them some sort of hope of claiming all maximum points as they face Elmina Sharks, who after 8 attempts, cannot find a win on the road. Yet still, on the downside for Liberty, Sharks have won 2 out of 2 coming with as many clean sheets. A timely revival by new coach Odartey Lamptey.

Liberty Professionals are 4 games without a goal. New boy William Opoku Mensah will look to cut short that streak with support from their top goal scorer with 3 goals, Abraham Wayo. Sharks themselves have not scored in 3 straight away games. The last time they did, it was courtesy James Bissue, their main threat despite having only to 90 minutes of game time under his belt.

Liberty managed an impressive draw at Sharks in the first round and much has not changed since. Both teams will need to go at each other to better their chances of survival.

ASHANTI GOLD vs HEARTS OF OAK

The second round of the Ghana Premier League begun on a quiet note for AshantiGold, as they drew with Karela United away from home. And their journey ahead does not get any easier as they face a resurgent Accra Hearts of Oak at the Len Clay Stadium. Can the Miners get a positive result against the Phobians?

Hearts of Oak are unbeaten in their last 6 matches in the league. To add to this unbeaten run, they have kept things tight at the back and have kept four clean sheets in a row. We can back them to keep a clean sheet against AshantiGold who have just won one match in their previous five fixtures in the league.

Head Coach Samuel Boadu can lead his boys to yet another victory on Saturday as they look to build momentum to challenge for the league this season.

LEGON CITIES vs GREAT OLYMPICS

A scintillating Accra Derby awaits lovers of the local game, with the might of wealth – Legon Cities – clashing with a resurgence like no other, on the part of Accra Great Olympics. Legon Cities were unfortunate in their last outing at Berekum Chelsea, after suffering a 2-1 defeat to commence the second round of matches. Hans Kwofie, despite the defeat, was a shining light for Legon Cities and is leading the striking pack of the Accra-based team. He will be called upon by coach Bashiru Hayford the support base to surmount the challenge from Olympics.

The league leaders will play as the away team on Sunday, even though the same venue is their home ground. With the likes of Karela, Hearts and Kotoko chasing them, an intent to finish as the best team in the country will require a statement to be made in games like these. A slip is not acceptable. They seem to be grinding out the results – which gives credence to the chances of winning the league. That notwithstanding, coach Walker has the arduous task of keeping his men level-headed for the task ahead.

WAFA vs BECHEM UNITED

One-time table toppers WAFA have continued to sink down the table over the last couple of months with just 3 wins out of 12 games since the commencement of 2021. Daniel Lomotey’s departure looks to have done them a great disservice on the pitch. Only Augustine Boakye and Konadu Yiadom have managed more than a goal (2) each since Lomotey left 9 games ago. They sit 13th on the table with just 5 points adrift the relegation zone. WAFA remain the team with the most conceded goals at home (10). During Lomotey’s time, their wins were built on outscoring their opponents. His departure meant their attack and defence left nobody to depend on.

Bechem United were hit for 4 by Asante Kotoko in a postponed game that was honoured during the midweek. Coach Kassim Mingle acknowledged his team’s poor showing despite his pre-match optimism. It was a game that could have propelled them into top four position had they won. The hunters thus stay 7th on the log. Their form on the road has not been anything to write home about – conceding 18 goals in 8 games and joint top in that department. They have lost their last 5 away games. Their shining light and top scorer Moro Salifu will be yearning to rally his troops for a victory. To do that, they visit a turf in the Sogakope Park that has seen its host stay unbeaten after 8 games with only Ashanti Gold keeping them at bay from scoring. It is a ground Bechem United have never won at.

INTER ALLIES vs KARELA UNITED

Bottom dwellers, Inter Allies have the whole of the second half of the season to turn things around. The earlier this turnaround commences, the better for the chances of survival. A bright point was earned against currently perilous Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dream. Surprisingly, that is the preferred and approved home venue for the ‘tampico’ boys. Richard Arthur got that lone leveller and will be raring to go again against one of the most improved teams in the league.

Karela’s slight slump is largely as a result of overdependence on star striker Diawisie Taylor. He has been able to carry the team on his shoulders. That trend may have to be altered to make the team more dynamic and less predictable. They started the second round with a draw, which saw them relinquish top spot to Great Olympics. Only a win can guarantee a sustained dominance and a return to the top of the table.

ADUANA STARS vs KING FAISAL

The fire boys faced a baptism of fire to commence their second round for the 2020-2021 GPL. At the hands of Accra Hearts of Oak, they had no answers to most of the questions asked of them in all departments of the game. King Faisal may not be as daunting a prospect as the phobians were. That notwithstanding, it is important for Aduana Stars to put the defeat against Hearts of Oak behind them. The likes of Samuel Bioh have been quite vocal on social media, claiming to put King Faisal to the sword.

Kumasi-based King Faisal have not had things going their way this season. Their fellow perennial relegation strugglers in Great Olympics find themselves at the top end of the table. Languishing in the lonely depths of the relegation zone is something they should greatly consider as unacceptable. Star striker Kwame Peprah stayed put with Alhaji Grunsah’s men. Keeping their star man can be their best transfer business so far. Hopefully, it should translate in some positive return for them.

KOTOKO vs BEREKUM CHELSEA

The porcupine warriors seem to have discovered their mojo when they trounced Bechem United by four goals. Much noise has been made about their Brazilian imports who grabbed a goal each in that outstanding fixture against Bechem. Michael Vinicius, in his few minutes on the pitch, proved to be a towering goal-poacher who can prove to be a thorn in the flesh of defenders in the GPL. Former Black Stars Coach Mariano Baretto is set lead the charge of fabulous outfit back to the top of the league. For him, anything less than annexing the trophy is a failure.

Berekum Chelsea may have lost their shine for some time now but are on the rise. Their last game was a well-fought win in their own backyard against Legon Cities. The memory of Emmanuel Clottey’s belter against Kotoko in the first leg comes to mind readily. Their threat in offense is quite decent and potent enough to trouble Kotoko.
