MEDEAMA VS KARELA

A clash between the best from the west presents an exciting prospect for lovers of the local game. Both teams are part of the top five team in the league, churning out some admirable displays. Medeama, who once topped the league are now in fifth place, 6 points off the top of the table. A poor run which has seen them take just 4 points out of a possible 15 will follow them into the derby today, against a fellow contender and neighbor. This game is very crucial because, the Yellow and Mauves will have to travel to Accra to face current league leaders, Hearts of Oak.

Karela have been a surprise contingent all season. This surprise can be sprung on their neighbors. A lack of experience has seen them lose top spot a number of times. They have spent more time atop the table than any other team this season. Opportunity beckons for the Ainyinase lads to get a double over their more prominent neighbors.

BEREKUM CHELSEA VS KING FAISAL

Berekum Chelsea hosts King Faisal in this match week 28 fixture. This is a must win for them as they could find themselves in the relegation zone if they lose. A number of poor runs have placed them dangerously close to the relegation zone with just 2 points separating them from King Faisal who are placed 17th. Coach Seth Hoffman and his lads need to give their all if indeed they are serious about their stay in the premier league.

King Faisal have been one of the teams to spend the most period in the relegation zone. Their brief respite out of the relegation zone was cut short when they lost to Techiman Eleven Wonders in match week 26. Their coach Kasim Gokyildiz recently resigned from his position according to reports and that is likely to have an effect on their already struggling season. With 6 matches left to the end of the season, a lose in this match, will seriously dent any hope of King Faisal’s stay in the league.

ELEVEN WONDERS VS BECHEM UNITED

Fifteen placed Eleven Wonders finally managed to record a victory in the league after narrowly defeating King Faisal by a lone goal at Obuasi. This makes it two ins, two draws and two losses in six games for Eleven Wonders. They head into the Brong Ahafo Derby seeking revenge from their city rivals who obliterate them in the first-round fixture of this derby by 3-1.  The Techiman based side will at least want to finish above their bitter rivals once the league ends.

Bechem United have managed to secure a modest 4 points from 24 points available in their last 6 games. Their recent draw against Elmina Sharks halted a four-game run that saw them lose games Dreams United, King Faisal, Heart of Oak and Karela United.  In Match Day 28, they come up against their bitter rivals Eleven Wonders in very bad form. Things look to go from bad to worse for Bechem United as they come up against a rejuvenated Eleven Wonders side who are determined to end the season on a positive note.

DREAMS FC VS ELMINA SHARKS

In their last game, Dreams FC had to succumb to the scientific soccer lads who have now pitched camp at Sogakope in the Volta Region. By this result, they have taken 7 points out of a possible 15. Their MTN FA Cup adventure was also brought to an abrupt end by minnows Phar Rangers during midweek. They need to put that defeat behind them and focus on a team who also need the points and are 10 points away from the Dawu-based side.

Elmina Sharks put up a spirited performance to snatch a draw from Bechem. Whether that vital point will be attributable to the efforts of the ‘Nduom boys’ or the slump in form for Bechem United will be proven with another successive away test in Dawu. They laboured to see of Metro Stars in their MTN FA Cup fixture on Wednesday. Striker Benjamin Boateng has blamed his inability to fire his team to glory as he promised, to injuries. The 20 year old set a target of 10 goals and is on 5 goals currently.

EBUSUA DWARFS VS ADUANA STARS

Ebusua Dwarfs and Aduana Stars will go up against each other in keenly contested game week 28 match at the Robert Mensah Stadium. Dwarfs will head into the game as favourite after some impressive home performances this season.  They will be desperate to win this match as Dwarfs is battling to get out of the relegation zone.

Aduana will have their work cut out for them as they come up against Dwarfs. The two teams played out a 2 all draw when they met in the first half of the season. Aduana have not enjoyed victories in the recent visits to the Robert Mensah Stadium. Out of 8 matches played between the two, Aduana has won 3, lost 4 and drew 1. They currently sit 8th with 40 points on the league table.

KOTOKO VS ASHGOLD

The clash of the giants in the Ashanti Region is one of the topliners to watch this week. The home side will host the away side on the away sides own turf, the Len Clay Sports Stadium. The tone seems to be set for a feisty encounter, as both teams need the points desperately. Kotoko have not recorded a win in their last 3 league matches, which has resulted in their arch-rivals surpassing them to top spot. Attacking options have now been thinned out with the exit of Brazilian, Michael Vinicius, who offered some aerial attacking route. It won’t be long for pressure to mount on the porcupine warriors, especially if Hearts of Oak are able to capture all 3 points in the derby against Great Olympics.

Ashgold have not been as blistering as before and this commenced when they let go of the services of Hans Kwoffie to Legon Cities. A loss against Kotoko will add another defeat to their 9 defeats this season, making it 3 in a row and 4 out of the last 5 games. The venue will not matter and will definitely not intimidate them, as they call the same place home, despite being the away team.

LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS VS WAFA

After a 5 game winless run, Liberty Professionals bounced back with a win against fancied Dreams FC who had been a chink in their armor over the past seasons. The scientific soccer lads will once again play host at the Sogakope Red Bull Arena which has served them so well, remaining unbeaten in 5 games. Ironically, they face the landlords of their newly found home as they square things out with WAFA, who barely put a foot wrong at the said venue. It promises to be a highly engrossing fixture between two sides at different ends of the table. Liberty Professionals require nothing but a win to move out of relegation places. With just 5 points separating the bottom 7, every point becomes vital at this stage of the season.

WAFA have left nothing to chance with their recent remarkable upsurge. A team so close to the bottom in recent few weeks have turned things around moving to 6th place and are just 7 points from the top. An incredible feat by Coach Prosper Ogum and his lads winning 6 out of their last 9 games during that elevation period. A run that should put a marker down for their aspirations come next season.

Against Liberty Professionals, where it’s usually an open and exciting game, with both sides playing an almost similar type of football, the outcome isn’t set in stone. It all comes down to who lady luck smiles at.

GREAT OLYMPICS VS HEARTS OF OAK

Accra Great Olympics and city rivals will renew their rivalry in a Ga Mantse derby on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium. There will be more than 3 points at stake in this match as both will want to take away the bragging rights. For Olympics, the motivation to beat their city rivals will be high and the chance to end Hearts winning streak. The two teams will have it all to place for as they are separated by 5 points. Olympics lies 3rd with 44 points and hearts 1st with 49 points.

After a dull start to the season, Hearts have enjoyed an exciting season. Hearts will be hoping to continue their winning ways as they gone five games unbeaten which sees them sit on top of the league table.  Hearts would want to take revenge on Olympics after being defeated earlier this season. A win for either side will could change the league placing at the end of the game week.

LEGON CITIES VS INTER ALLIES

Accra based Legon Cities’ renaissance continues after 4 wins in their last fixtures in the Ghana Premier League. Coach Bashir Hayford’s team are currently unbeaten after two games following back-to-back victories against Ashantigold and Inter Allies. They come up against their bottom-placed side, Inter Allies on Monday in a local derby in Accra. This match should be a walk over for Legon Cities but it will not be an easy fixture against a side battling with relegation.

Brimming with confidence after surprisingly the naysayers and defeated Medeama SC by three goals to nil, Inter Allies will look to build on this result as they fight aggressively to retain their Premier League status this season. Inter Allies just like their opponents, have lost just one game in their previous five matches. The Accra New Boys derby against Legon Cities will be a match between two of the in-form sides in the league. Will Inter Allies survive the drop this season? Only time will tell.

DREAMS FC vs BECHEM UNITED

The believers, who were once a team to avoid at the start of the year, have sunk into seventh place. That notwithstanding, they are 7 points off the top spot. Their form is patchy to say the least but their home has been impregnable since Matchday 18. They have scored 6 goals at home, after the loss to Olympics on matchday 17. Against Bechem who have a poor traveling form, they may fancy their chances to grab the points.

Bechem United have one of the poorest away forms. Based on away points only, they would have been lying fifteenth on the table. Their goal difference away from home is also the most unwanted in the league: -21 is the goals difference which casts a slur on their away performances. The Hafiz Konkoni injury, which keeps the striker out for virtually the rest of the season has been their bane and away from home, the terrible patch may continue.

MEDEAMA vs ASHANTI GOLD

Both teams will want to at least finish in the Top Four of the league table. Medeama SC have enjoyed some few weeks at the top. They are now 4th just five points behind league leaders Kotoko. Defeat to WAFA at home and the disappointing draw in Sogakope against Liberty made their hopes of clinching the trophy a difficult one hence the drop. Ashanti Gold are 9th on the league table and six points behind Medeama. The Miners come into this game after their narrow victory against Accra Great Olympics in Obuasi. Ashgold have lost two and drawn one in their last three away trips hence making the trip to Tarkwa an exceedingly difficult one.

Medeama have been extraordinarily strong at home this second half of the season. The Mauve and Yellow army have won three of their last four home games and have scored at least a goal in each of the four home fixtures. They have also managed to cope well in the absence of Justice Blay who have been sideline due to injury. Playing in front of their cheering fans, pressure will be on Medeama to win this match convincingly. Trust Yaw Preko to keep to his tactics and probably grab a win. Trust Prince Opoku Agyeman to score at home but the defense of Medeama should be very discipline at the back so as not to concede goals easily like we have seen in their last few games. Fatawu Suleman is gradually gaining the applause from the fans for his hard work and efforts.

Ashgold will want to sit back and absorb the pressure and possibly bounce on the host with a counter with their finest attacking midfield machinery in the likes of David Abagna. Abagna has been on fine form this season, scoring important goals and giving assist when it matters. The former Wa All Stars and former league winner has been fantastic for the Miners this season.

BEREKUM CHELSEA vs KARELA UNITED

This match week 26 fixture for Berekum Chelsea against Karela United will be nothing short of interesting as they seek to make their fans find their voices after that humiliating 5 nil loss to bottom placed Inter Allies. This will be their second home game after suffering their first home defeat of the season in match week 22 when they hosted WAFA. Their form in the last 5 matches played has been abysmal, winning one and losing 4. They are dangerously hanging in the bottom half of the table and further poor results can land them in a gloomy situation.

Former league leaders Karela United are gradually waking up from their sleep after they went on a five-match winless streak. Karela themselves are poor travelers with only one away win which they secured against Ebusua Dwarfs in match week 13. They have a tough job to do as Berekum Chelsea is on a path of redemption to secure their breached fortress once again.

EBUSUA DWARFS vs LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS

Embattled Ebusua Dwarfs are biting their fingers from the punitive measures meted out to them as a fallout from their match against Legon Cities. Minus 3 points and losing points and goals to a team in a similar fate as theirs on the league table is the last thing, they would have wanted to happen to them. They must still look forward to the remaining games of the season. After Liberty, they travel to WAFA and then host Aduana Stars, all these teams are above Liberty and will present a tougher opposition. Maximum points in this game are non-negotiable.

Liberty look rejuvenated after they snatched a point from the league leaders coming into match day 26. Five points from five games is not ideal enough to lift one out of the relegation zone. A trip to a desperate Ebusua Dwarfs side is not a comfortable prospect. All is not lost though. They may seek to capitalize on the current destabilized state of the Cape Coasters to steal something out of the game.
