INTER ALLIES vs GREAT OLYMPICS

Inter Allies suffered a narrow but devastating defeat to Berekum Chelsea on their last trip to Berekum. Though the result was expected, it did nothing to alleviate the declining fortunes of the Accra-based side. Inter Allies have lost four of their last five matches – a form fit for relegation. In a league where the bottom five teams will face the axe at the end of the season, the earlier they work their way out of relegation, the better it will be for their chances to stay up.

Olympics fell to a spirited Ashgold side at home in their last run out. Captain Gladson Awako put the Dade boys ahead earlier in the game only for the miners to cancel the lead right before half time. Coach Yaw Preko, their newly appointed man at the helm needs to conjure a response at the Accra Sports Stadium, though as the away side. This is necessary to rekindle their previously encouraging form.

LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS VS EBUSUA DWARFS

An out of sorts Liberty Professionals will come face-to-face with a Ebusua Dwarfs who have struggled to find any form this season. The scientific soccer lads lost to Asante Kotoko in an uninspired display in Accra after losing their instrumental midfielder and captain George Amoako to Tunisian outfit US Tataouine over the transfer period. Liberty have however held their own at the Carl Reindorf Park, scoring in every game in almost 2 calendar years. They stay unbeaten at their home this season after four games and have kept back-to-back clean sheets in their only two victories this term at the fortress. Young talent Ahmed Sater will look to boss the defence as usual while Kweku Karikari will start ahead of Razak Boame again at centre forward again after his injury return.

Ebusua Dwarfs stay 15th with a game in hand and lie just 1 point above the relegation zone after falling at Dawu to Dreams FC last time out. Benjamin Acquah has been the shining light for the ‘idepanday’ boys bagging 3 MOTM awards backed by his 2 goals this season: the most amongst his teammates, underlining their struggles upfront. Dwarfs have yet to record a clean sheet away from home and they travel to a ground where that has yet to happen in their last 4 visits. Expect both teams to struggle at scoring.

BECHEM UNITED vs DREAMS FC

Bechem United are looking to reclaim top spot on the table once again as they host Dreams FC. The “Hunters” failed to pick all three points after playing a pulsating 1-1 draw game against struggling King Faisal. The draw came as a surprise as pundits predicted a heavy win for the Bechem Lads. A win and possible leap to the top of the table, is an extra motivation for Coach Danso and his boys to teach Dreams FC some footballing lessons in Bechem.

New coach Vladislav Vivic and his “believe” boys have a huge test in this match week 9 fixture. With just two wins so far this season, they must bring their “A game” as they travel to Bechem. After securing a well-deserved win against Ebusua Dwarfs in their previous match, Dreams FC is poised to hand Bechem United their first home defeat of the season as they continue their steady journey to secure decent on the league table.

KING FAISAL vs ELMINA SHARKS

Rock bottom King Faisal are looking to secure only their second win of the season as they welcome Elmina Sharks. King Faisal’s ever present defensive problems lingers on as they have managed just one clean sheet this season. Their shock 1-1 draw against a sloid Bechem United side in their previous match can be evidence of good days to come for the “Insha Allah” boys. A spirited performance is needed by the team if they are serious about surviving the drop at the end of the season.

A win for the “Fearsome Sharks” could possibly shoot them into 4th position on the table. They have so far not won an away match this season and this fixture presents a perfect opportunity to record one. They are hoping to take advantage of the porous defense of King Faisal, whiles keeping a close watch on the sharp attack line of Faisal.

ADUANA STARS vs LEGON CITIES

Aduana Stars suffered at their hands of fellow title contenders Medeama in their last game by a 2-1 score line. In that tightly contested fixture, the Dormaa lads were left ruing the chances they missed. Caleb Amankwah, Noah Martey and the likes will need to help raise the morale of the squad. Yahya Mohammed was not fully fit for the Medeama clash but will stake a claim to start in this encounter against Accra based Legon Cities.

The visitors recorded their first ever win this season against WAFA. The result was a surprise to many, as WAFA were in red-hot goal scoring form prior to that game. The main question to be answered by Legon Cities is if that win was a fluke or not. Coach Bashir Hayford’s squad have proven to be a tad too unreliable and frustrating for their fans. In Aduana’s fortress, a win will be a solid statement to other teams and connoisseurs of the Ghanaian league.

KARELA UNITED vs BEREKUM CHELSEA

Karela have been toppled from the top of the league. Their real tests have been rearing their heads in recent times. Two losses on the road against Bechem United and Eleven Wonders have been a reality check for the Ayinase-based side. Berekum Chelsea present a sterner test for Karela, after the former recorded a morale boosting win at home against Inter Allies. For the first time in a long while, fans will be able to throng the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park to attempt to buoy their team up for a much-needed victory.

The lads from Berekum had to grind out a narrow win against Inter Allies at home the last time. Their form has not been one of the best in the past five games for their stature. That notwithstanding, some encouraging performers such as Edward Kpodo will be depended upon to help stave off a hungry attacking line led by the dangerous Diawisie Taylor.

WAFA vs KUMASI ASANTE KOTOKO

Built for another feisty encounter, the Sogakope lads welcome the traditional big boys Asante Kotoko to the Sogakope Red Bull Arena. The academy boys who sit 4th on the league log with the 2nd highest goals scored are joint top in goals conceded amongst the top 8 clubs so far this season. Wafa have won 3 of the last 5 games while striker Daniel Lomotey tops the scorers’ chart with 7 goals. Coach Prosper Narh and youngster Augustine Boakye are in the running for coach and player of the month respectively. It is all going well for the Sogakope lads and this could be a good time to face title rival who have yet to record any convincing victory at the scheduled venue.

Asante Kotoko after being knocked out of the CAF champions league qualification round for off the pitch reasons, bounced back to collect all 3 points against Liberty Professionals, with Kwame Opoku and Fabio Gama showing stellar displays. The former, after his impressive debut is set to build on his team’s recent form of 3 wins in 5 while shipping in a meager 4 goals all season (the best defence by a mile). The fabulous lads remain the only unbeaten team on the road.

WAFA have been involved in games with goals at both ends of the pitch. Though talented, inexperience has been their bane this season. Coming up against a side seeking the ultimate, this should be a good watch with both sides cancelling each other out.

ASHGOLD vs MEDEAMA

Match day 8 gave Ghana Premier League a new league leader in the form of Ashgold. After two slender victories against Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea, the Obuasi based side have recovered from their early exit from the CAF Confederations qualifiers. Medeama visit the Len Clay Sports stadium next. With the return of fans to the stadium, AshantiGold will look to put up a befitting performance in front of their fans with a resounding victory.

Medeama recovered from the walloping loss to WAFA by defeating Aduana Stars 2-1 in their last league game. Medeama’s defense has conceded 10 goals so far in the league. With half of the goals coming in their 5-4 defeat to WAFA. It will be difficult to keep Ashgold’s strikers quiet especially at home as they play in front of their fans for the first time in almost a year.

HEARTS OF OAK vs ELEVEN WONDERS

Accra Hearts of Oak will face another real test in this fixture as they host a tactically disciplined Eleven Wonders side. Hearts have shown bits of inconsistency this season as they struggled to draw 1-1 against Elmina Sharks in their previous game. The team has been without some key players due to injury, hence their struggle. The recovery and possible availability of Kojo Obeng Jnr and Larry Sumaila will be a major boost to the team. Hearts needs to be very composed if they have any plans of victory against them.

Eleven Wonders will want to make it two wins out of two as they face Hearts of Oak. After giving Karela United only their second loss of the season with a 3-1 win against them, the “wonder” boys are in high spirits to repeat such a performance against Hearts. Although they have their own share of inconsistent performances, Eleven Wonders possess tactical discipline on the field cannot be overlooked.

Coach Papic and Coach Ignatius are ready to flex their tactical prowess in this fixture.
