KING FAISAL VS KUMASI ASANTE KOTOKO

King Faisal’s bright start to the season has taken a nosedive, with some poor run of results. They’ve only managed to win one league match in their last five and are 10th on the table with 29pts. Although their challenges on the pitch continues, midfielder Mawuli Wayo still leads the assist chart with 6 assists this season. Coach Nurudeen Amadu is yet to lose against Kotoko since taking up the job at King Faisal. He has a record of 2 wins and a draw, and is poised to keep this clean record.

The title winning aspirations of Kotoko continues unabated with an 8-point lead at the top of the table, coming into this game. Prosper Nartey Ogum’s men managed to come back from a goal down to draw 1 all in their last game against Karela United. The team showed character even after the sending off of their captain Abdul Ganiyu in the 28th minute. This away fixture will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium since they share the venue with their opponents. This Kumasi Derby in the first round saw King Faisal beat Kotoko by 3 goals to 2, which registered as the first defeat of the season for Kotoko. Leading goalscorer in the league Frank Etuoga Mbella will be upfront for the Porcupine Warriors to take revenge for that painful defeat they suffered in the first-round fixture.

ELEVEN WONDERS VS ACCRA LIONS

Sekondi Eleven Wonders were brought back to earth after a disappointing loss to Elmina Sharks on match day 21 after an encouraging result at home against league leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko. This has been the season’s storyline for Eleven Wonders. After putting up good performances at home, they lose their momentum and lose games away from home. They have a chance to win some crucial points at home against Accra Lions next in the league. A positive performance will improve the team’s chances of avoiding relegation this season.

Accra Lions, a rookie to the Ghana Premier League, have excelled in their debut season. Currently in 13th place in the league rankings, but only five points clear of the relegation zone. The cynics will predict that the newcomers will return to Division One at the conclusion of the season, they look strong enough to be able to hold their own and remain in the league. Accra Lions’ finest performances have come in front of their home fans, with only a one-point return in their past two away games against Elmina Sharks and Bechem United. Accra Lions will fancy their chances to at least grab a point from this encounter, which takes place away from home against a team that has struggled to put together a string of positive performances.

LEGON CITIES VS ASHGOLD

Inconsistent Legon Cities are the league’s experts of achieving mixed results. They have a huge triumph one week, then a dismal performance the following. The last meeting between these two teams resulted in a draw. Legon Cities are unbeaten in three of their prior league meetings against their upcoming opponent. They’ll be favorites to extend their unbeaten streak going up against Ashanti Gold.

Obuasi Ashanti Gold rebounded spectacularly from their loss to the defending champions by thrashing Real Tamale United four goals to nil. They will be looking to build momentum in their next few games to move up the table after only two victories in their last five games. The Miners, first have to pull off a victory against a side they find it difficult to defeat in the league.

WAFA VS ADUANA STARS

WAFA host Aduana in a crucial tie, which has a strong influence over the standings at the top and bottom of the Premier League. WAFA are in 15th place and level on points with RTU. Such aprecarious position must be remedied quickly. The Academy stars have the backing of their Sogakope fortress and must make it count at all cost.

The Ogya boys slipped up against Legon Cities, to forfeit 2nd spot, which would have been theirs owing to the draw between Bechem United and Dreams FC. The former was and is still in 2nd spot. Aduana Stars have had a relatively encouraging season, and have the second best away record after Kotoko. Bechem’s stranglehold on second spot will come under pressure and the lads from Dormaa will want to take nothing but maximum points from Sogakope.

BECHEM UNITED VS ACCRA GREAT OLYMPICS

Bechem United, who are clinging on to the second spot, clash with Great Olympics on match day 23. The Bechem lads looked to have lost the spot to Aduana Stars but recovered to recapture the spot behind leaders, Kotoko, with a draw at Dreams FC. The competition between these two is tight, as there has been a win, a draw and a loss for both teams in the past 3 encounters. Bechem, with the upper hand at home, will want to make it count, to ensure that they are not overtaken by any of the chasing pack.

Great Olympics can move into second spot with a win away to Bechem United. They will have to count on adversarial results for Aduana stars. Though the threat of losing away stares them in the face, as they did in their last game away to Bechem, their destiny is in their hands if they wish to jump 3 places into second.
