BEREKUM CHELSEA VS KING FAISAL

Berekum Chelsea are still looking for their first win of the season as they host an impressive King Faisal side in this match week 4 fixture. The “Bibires” start to the season hasn’t been the best recording 2 loses and a draw, picking up only one point in the process. Their coach Abu Abdul-Hana was sacked as a result and coach Moses Cofie has been appointed to take charge of the team, signing a one-year contract. Cofie has had stints with Burkinabe team Rahimo FC, winning the FA Cup and league with them.

His simple task will be to bring the team back to winning ways. That task against their high-flying opponents won’t be easy though.

King Faisal visit Berekum Chelsea in a quest to continue their impressive start to the season. Faisal haVE won all three fixtures they’ve played so far with a convincing win against Aduana Stars away, beating them by 3 goals to 1, breaking their unbeaten home record from last season. King Faisal have conceded only once in their three matches played and are currently second on the table with 9 points. Coach Nurudeen Amadu has warned clubs that this is a new King Faisal and clubs must prepare well before they meet them.

ADUANA STARS VS RTU

Dormaa meets Tamale in a clash which pitches the pride of the North against the pride of Dormaa. Nana Agyeman Badu’s charges stuttered against King Faisal in match day 2 and will have to make amends in the next home fixture, against RTU. The 1-1 draw against Karela was deemed impressive due to how difficult that ground is. Senior players such as Yahya Mohammed and new recruit from Kotoko, Emmanuel Gyamfi will have to step up the plate to salvage the image of the Dormaa side.

RTU have been in inspiring form after their first game against Great Olympics. The narrow defeat to Legon Cities did nothing to reduce their morale. WAFA were the last team to taste their wrath up North. An away day game comes with its own coloration and with David Abagna Sandan in form (top scorer so far), there is hope of a positive outcome in a once feared terrain.

ACCRA LIONS VS BECHEM UNITED

Accra Lions face off with Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium in search of their first ever premier league win. After 3 games already, the Lions languish at the bottom with a single point and are amongst 8 teams yet to record a win. 1st tier football has somewhat presented a tough task than the debutants expected. Even with all their exciting attacking football where they are yet to draw blank in front of goal, a huge leak at the back has been their bane, conceding 7 goals so far and the highest by any team.

Bechem united are in fine form, sitting amongst top 4 places with 6 points from 3 games backed by an impressive 2 clean sheets so far. Playing on the road, however, has been the hunters’ Achilles heel, having gone winless in 16 consecutive away games. Their one positive will come from having been able to push league leaders Asante Kotoko to the death before succumbing to 2 late goals that amounted to another away defeat. Coach Kassim Mingle is optimistic of his side’s chance of capitalizing on their hosts’ naivety in ending their away hoodoo. Augustine Okrah is in good form and will be one to keep an eye on.

ASANTE KOTOKO VS ELEVEN WONDERS

The league leaders face off with Eleven Wonders in match day 4, at their hallow turf, Baba Yara Sports Stadium. In the past four encounters, Kotoko have won two and drawn two. As they have the upper hand, they are expected to carry the day. That notwithstanding, the narrow one-nil wins shows how matches between these teams are close. Riding on the momentum will help Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side to continue their hot streak of wins. King Faisal Babes lost their first game and that should be enough motivation for Kotoko to grab all three points.

Eleven Wonders played a role in the dismissal of their former coach, as they held Medeama to a draw. Just as they did against a local giant, they can cause havoc for Kotoko as well. With 2 points from 3 games, and just a loss, Eleven Wonders do not have a terrible story yet. A point in such a big fixture can go a long way to improve their morale and set them up for better things this season.

ASHGOLD VS HEARTS OF OAK

On Match Day 4, Ashanti Gold will face Accra Hearts of Oak in what promises to be a pivotal match for both teams. The Miners were given a harsh awakening on how tough the league will be coming season after losing to King Faisal in Match Day 3. They return home for their next league match, but things look more daunting with the defending champions in town. Hearts of Oak is hoping to have a successful season. It’s a shame that Ashanti Gold will become entangled in this web.

Three points from a possible nine isn’t a bad start to the new season. However, for a club like Hearts Of Oak, the defending champions, it’s been a disastrous start as they attempt to retain their title this season. They are one of four clubs in the league who have yet to lose a game. However, the Phobians will regain their stride and prove their value as the current league champions sooner rather than later. On Sunday, we might see the start of this renaissance at Len Clay Stadium.

MEDEAMA VS KARELA UNITED

The western derby brings together two respectable teams who are yet to find their form this season. Another thing they share is that they have both drawn two of their games this season. The hosts last game ended in a draw against Eleven Wonders. The sacking of coach Ignatius Fosu is a signal of intent for things to change at the Tarkwa based club and fast.

Karela are unbeaten so far, drawing two of their games and winning one. Such a respectable start, compared to how they ended last season. In the backyard of their sworn territorial rivals, the stakes are higher than usual. The Ainyinase based side are hell-bent on righting their wrongs from last season, where they looked like title contenders from one angle and faced capitulation close to the end of the season. At home, they have a very solid front and replicating it away will do their fortunes a lot of good this season.

WAFA VS LEGON CITIES

WAFA climaxed last season with a fine run of 4 wins in 5 but have stumbled at this season’s start, still searching for their first win of the campaign. The Academy boys have struggled to live up to last season’s hype which saw them finish 3rd on the table. WAFA have conceded in all 3 games with only a single goal to show for. New head coach Guillermo Zaragoza already has his hands full in finding a formulae for his boys into grinding out results as he himself tries to put in a shift into adapting to this entirely new terrain. But his side will likely be happy to return to the Sogakope Park where they’ve won 7 of their last 10 encounters. In Legon Cities, they face a side who are yet to win at the said venue after 5 visits.

Coach Maxwell Konadu’s charges were brought back down to earth after slumping to a 1 nil defeat in the hands of Great Olympics. After holding the champions to a draw and following it up with a win against RTU, the Royals seemed to be cruising. Now they must fight back to winning ways at the daunting home of WAFA. Legon Cities won a mere 3 away matches last season, resulting in their lowly 13th position per their standards.

If history is anything to go by, then they would have to put up an even better performance than the game with the champions to collect any point at stake.

OLYMPICS VS DREAMS FC

The wonder club, Accra Great Olympics have momentum on their side, as they push to extend their unbeaten start to the season. Their one-nil win against Legon Cities was an away win, despite the venue, as both teams share the same ground. Olympics can comfortably speak of home advantage, while banking on the hopes of Maxwell Abbey Quaye, one who has discovered consistency in scoring this season. Coach Annor Walker will be weary of Dreams FC’s away performance after an impressive performance against Elmina Sharks but with the current form of their striker Maxwell Quaye, he will be sure to see off Dreams FC.

Dreams put up a remarkable performance in their home to defeat Accra Lions in game week 3. They dominated Elmina Sharks in their first away match of the season and will be hoping to replicate such dominant performance against Olympics. Dreams lost to Olympics in both legs of the 2020/2021 season, a record coach Viric Vladislav and his charges would not want to repeat.

ELMINA SHARKS VS GOLD STARS

After glimpses of a positive showing in their maiden game against Accra Lions, Elmina Sharks’ pretentious fire has died out with 2 straight defeats in very poor displays. The Botwekumba boys remain winless as they come up against a side in Gold Stars reeling from their narrow home defeat last time out to Asante Kotoko after they themselves had exceeded expectations with great results in their first 2 games even for being newcomers.

After losing a handful of players, Sharks were tipped to still perform better than previously having replaced them with equally gifted ones and with coach Nii Odartey Lamptey still at the helm. Things rather unsurprisingly haven’t gone according to the script, and as the debutants visit the Nduom Sports Complex, the home side will be poised to kick-start their campaign with a win here.

Gold Stars barring that Kotoko loss have been radiant in their performances. They lie 8th on the table and are one of only 7 teams yet to concede more than 1 goal in a game. Their mean and steady shift defense has been the underlying basis for their laudable performances so far. Any side could win this low scoring encounter.
