Liberia’s Education Minister, Professor Ansu D. Sonii Jnr has been brought to Ghana for COVID-19 treatment.

According to Citi News sources within the COVID-19 case management team, the 70-year-old is also receiving medical attention for kidney related-ailments at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

This is due to the difficulties associated with dialysis in Liberia.

Liberia currently has some 652 confirmed cases of the virus and 34 deaths.

Liberia President George Weah extended a state of emergency over the COVID-19 pandemic by 30 days, until July 21, on Monday.

He cited an exponential increase in the number of cases as the reason for the extension.

Liberia is noted as one of the world’s poorest countries and was hit hard by the Ebola outbreak from 2013 which killed more than 4,800 people there.
