Rapid Test Fee At Airport Is Extortionate; Reduce It! – Kwesi Pratt To Gov’t

Local News

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has called on government to reduce the rapid test fee at the airport.

Mr. Pratt wondered why flight passengers entering Ghana must pay $150 to undergo the test.

All passengers coming into Ghana are mandated to present a Coronavirus negative test they have undertaken within 72 hours from the country they’re travelling from and when they get to the Kotoka International Airport, undergo another test where they have to pay 150 dollars.

This arrangement is to stop the importation of the virus into the country.

Speaking on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo”, Mr. Pratt held that the fee is equitable to extortion and asked the authorities how they expect passengers to pay up such fee.

“It’s expensive. Some country collect 28 dollars. We used to say Benin charges much higher than us but when the people protested, it has been reduced to 90 dollars. Ours is too costly; we should reduce it,” he said.
He also raised red flag over government’s employment of a private company to conduct the rapid test when Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) could offer similar service for less a fee.

”Why do you have a private company to come and charge 150 to conduct tests at the airport when we have State institutions which can equally do same for less?”
