WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO HEALTH WORKERS

FORM: THE MOST REV DR PAUL K. BOAFO
(PRESIDING BISHOP, THE METHODIST CHURCH GHANA)

Dearly beloved, may the peace of God which passes all understanding rest with you now and always.

In the battle against this Coronavirus pandemic you are classified as one of the critical front liners in bringing relieve to the people. You are in the centre at the OPD, tracing, testing and treating the patients. Your lives and that of your families and dependents have been on the line. We know how you are working under very hash conditions resulting in some of you contracting this deadly disease.

To describe you in the wake of Covid-19, you have been incredible and amazing front liners in the fight. You are brave, courageous selfless and kind. Your determination to help others, at a very high risk to yourself, is truly inspiring. A colleague trying to describe the healthcare worker in this period wrote, “Despite all the bad, all the selfishness, all the greed, all the terrible things in humanity, your courageous sacrifice makes me feel a hope for the future. It truly inspires me to work harder to serve others just as you do”. Indeed, your resilience, dedication, commitment and courage during the Covid-19 pandemic deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration.

Covid-19 is a nightmare that is driving the entire world into a state of confusion, causing fear to spread among people. Stress, exhaustion, fear, and renewed hope, these words sum up the current situation of the healthcare workers mobilized in the battle against Covid-19. My words of encouragement to all health professionals is let each one of you individually and personally take comfort in these words of God from Isaiah 43:1-2:

But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.

Be assured that you are not alone but the Lord the great physician is right there with you in the sacrifices you are making everyday. May his presence ever register in your daily work. Shalom
