On the 26th October 2021, Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo was inducted as the 13th vice-chancellor of the University of Ghana and also the first female in the history of the University.
On the occasion yesterday, the Chancellor, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse rained praises upon the newly inducted VC. She said after her matriculation in 1959 at the same university, that a woman should be sworn in as vice-chancellor would have been far-fetched. Her heart swells with joy and pride that it is under her chancellorship that God has chosen to do this beautiful thing. The Chancellor mentioned that Mrs. Mary, the newly VC has “smashed the glass ceiling”
The newly inducted VC Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo becomes the first woman to occupy the position in the history of the nation’s premier university, joining the likes of Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson and Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang as the first women to occupy the prestigious position of the Vice-Chancellor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology ( KNUST), and the University of Cape Coast ( UCC) respectively.
