President Akufo-Addo has met with Heads of Basic Schools ahead of the planned re-opening of the schools on June 29 for final year students to write their exit examinations.

The meeting discussed how best the basic schools can reopen amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

President Akufo-Addo said the country has to find a way to turn life to normal for all sectors.

“We have to find a way of continuing the life of society. We have to find a way to continuing the life of education. We have to find a way to continuing the life of our economy.”

He said Government will continue to absorb the examination fees for the BECE students to ease the financial burden on parent.

The meeting with the Heads of basic schools is the third of such meetings to be held with group of educationist within the last two weeks.

President Akufo-Addo in his 10th address to the nation on COVID-19 announced the reopening of schools for final students at all levels of education to write their exit examinations.

Already students at the tertiary level, second cycle institutions have reported to school. It’s now time for students at the basic level to report.

The President of Conference of Heads of Basic Schools, Mercy Akayila Anuemba, assured the President that the basic schools are ready to reopen. She however called for timely supply of PPE.

President Akufo-Addo said government will supply the student and the teaching body with nose masks, hand sanitiser, and the schools with veronica buckets and infrared thermometers.  He said to ensure strict compliance with laid down safety procedures, class size will not exceed 30 students, and class will start at 9 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. He said students will not be allowed to play during break time all in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus in schools

The supply of the PPEs is expected to be delivered this weekend.
