16 dead after two Yutong buses involved in a head-on collision

Sixteen persons have died after two Yutong buses with registration numbers GT 3345-16 and AC 1699-20 were involved in a head-on collision at Sarekyekura in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region.

The two buses with 45 passengers on board each vehicle traveling from Kumasi to Zebila and from Garu to Kumasi involved in the accident on Wednesday, February 3.

Forty-five (45) other passengers who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to the Buipe polyclinic and holistic Medicare for medical attention.

According to a police Sitrep report, the drivers of the buses are yet to be identified.

It says efforts are being made to identify the victims.

Dangerous Driving. On 03/02/2021 at about 0012 hours suspect drivers yet to be identified were in charge of Yutong buses with registration numbers GT 3345-16 and AC 1699-20 with about 45 persons onboard each of the vehicles traveling from Kumasi to Zebila and from Garu to Kumasi.

On reaching Sarekyekura near Fufulso on the Buipe – Tamale Highway the two vehicles collided head-on. Sixteen persons made up of 12 male adults, 3 female adults, and 1 female child died on the spot. Forty – five persons on board the two vehicles sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to Buipe Polyclinic and Holistic Medicare Hospital, Buipe for treatment.

One female adult later died whilst receiving treatment at Holistic Medicare Hospital bringing the death toll to seventeen. Efforts are being made to tow the accident vehicles to the station and trace both suspect drivers to assist in the investigation.
