A woman finance Minister would have been better than Ofori-Atta – Krachi West MP

The Member of Parliament for Krachi West, Helen Ntoso, has said that the current economic challenges in Ghana would have been averted had a woman been Finance Minister.

“Mr. Speaker, I dare to say that when women are in positions, they do better than men. I also dare to say that if the Finance Minister were a woman we will not find ourselves in this situation that we found ourselves in Ghana,” she added.

Speaking in Parliament on this year’s International Women’s Day celebration under the theme, “break the bias”, Madam Ntoso said one of the ways Ghana can achieve better socio-economic development is to place women in leadership positions.

“So in short, what I want to say is that women can perform, we can do better when we are put in certain positions. So in the next NDC government, I am advocating that the Defense Minister should be a woman, the Minister for Interior should be a woman and the Finance Minister should be a woman,” she advocated.

Her colleague’s Female Members of Parliament also added their messages as the world celebrates Women International Women’s Day.

The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan decried systemic discrimination Ghanaian women are being subjected to especially politicians.

Deputy Health Minister, Tina Mensah on her part argued that gender inequality has been inhibiting the progress of women for far too long and must end.

The Weija-Gbawe MP further noted that women are not in competition with men but are only seeking their fair share of opportunities.
