Akropong kingmakers fined GHS48K for flouting social gathering ban

The Akropong Circuit Court has fined the four chiefs who flouted the ban on public gathering as well as social-distancing protocols to install a chief, a total of GHS48,576.00.

The four were arraigned on Wednesday, 6 May 2020.

The court was presided by Her Lordship Harriet Nsembo.

They were fined 1,000 penalty units each after pleading guilty to all counts.

The accused persons are Odehye Kofi Asiedu Adu-Mfum, 57; Nana Semenhyia Ohene Asa Krofa, 43; Benet Osei Opoku alias Ohenenana BS Opoku, 55; and Nana Odiasempa Krobea Asante,70.

They were charged for failing to comply with the restriction imposed on gathering contrary to paragraph 1(A)VII of EI 64 and section 6 of the Imposition of Restriction Act 1012 /2020.

The accused kingmakers were arrested on Friday, 2 May 2020, for enstooling Oseedeayo Kwasi Akuffo II as a paramount chief despite the ban on all social gathering to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
