It appears the acts of scammers have been extended to Radio and Television Personality, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi popularly known as Bola Ray as he has cautioned the general public to disregard a LinkIn Account with his name and his photograph.

The CEO of media conglomerate, EIB Network Group posted a screenshot of the said account on his social media handle cautioning his followers and the general public to “disregard this fake LinkIn account created using my name and image”. He further warns the general public not to fall victims to the “sinister” and “scam” motive of the “fake” account.

“The motive is sinister and intended to scam unsuspecting victims. Don’t fall for it.”

The use of fake social media accounts to defraud unsuspecting social media users is one of the prevalent cybercrimes that the world is dealing with. Here in Ghana, fraudsters impersonate minister and other high profile personalities by creating social media accounts with their names and pictures to dupe people. These fake accounts usually promise people of employment opportunities and in the process dupe them of their monies.

Quite recently, a woman was arrested by the National Security of Ghana and arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly impersonating some ministers of state including the minister of Information and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to defraud some individuals to the tune of GHC10,277 under the pretext of securing them jobs in public institution, My News Gh reported.

The Ghana Police Service had previously cautioned the general public to be mindful of fake online recruitment agencies offering unsuspecting job seekers employment opportunities. The service in a statement dated 10th November, 2019 said such fake Online recruitment agencies were present in Burkina Faso and were likely to relocate their illegal operations to other countries including Ghana.
