The counting of the disputed ballots in the Sene West constituency has begun at the Techiman Divisional Headquarters after confusion between the National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party representatives on the ground.
The counting begun after the NPP’s injunction on the count was thrown out by the Wenchi High Court.
The NDC side had demanded that the Electoral Commission (EC) should wait as they didn’t have the key to their padlock which was securing the room where the Ballot box was being held.
This led to a confrontation a series of heated arguments.
The EC proceeded to force open the NDC’s padlock to the room which the ballot box was secured in.
A police officer had to use a hammer to break the padlock.
The NPP’s candidate, Joseph Markay Kuma, sought an injunction against the election results over claims of irregularities with the electoral process although collation of results had not taken place.
But in court on Thursday morning, the Presiding Judge, His Lordship Justice Frederick Nawura, struck out the NPP’s case and directed that the Electoral Commission be allowed to do its work.
Sene West is the one outstanding seat in the Parliamentary elections which has seen the NPP win 137 seats in Parliament whilst the NPP has 136 seats.
A parliamentary seat, in Fomena, was also won by an independent candidate.
