An Accra Circuit Court has discharged three more persons alleged to have participated in activities aimed at seceding parts of the Volta Region from Ghana.
The suspects are Bright Sosu, Desmond Sosu and Francis Kudjo Wor. They were originally part of a group of 27 who were charged with conspiracy and treason felony, among other crimes, and for allegedly being part of an organisation that sought to form a breakaway country to be called Western Togoland.
The court, presided over by Ms Rosemond Baah Tosu, had earlier discharged 22 of the accused persons who belonged to another set of suspects who had been arraigned.
The court discharged the three yesterday after the prosecution presented a new charge sheet that excluded them from a new list that contained the names of 24 accused persons.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Sylvester Asare, told the court that following investigations, the prosecution had dropped charges against the three.
The court consequently discharged them.
Accused persons
The remaining 24 accused persons are Nene Kwaku Agblorm II, Abednego Dzreke Mawuena, Emmanuel Hayford Afedo, Richard Doglo Afedo, Benjamin Kplivi, Samuel Wor, Komla Kove, Charles Elo, Richard Kwasi Norgbordzi, Stephen Kpexor, Kpexor Bersa Israel, Emmanuel Alowordor, Ebenezer Nyaletasi, Cephas Zodanu and Moses Gadago.
The rest are Ernest Dzitor, David Heddidor, Christian Nudekor, Paul Nunekpeku, Edwin Olu Dzinyela, Vincent Amaglo Gakpetor, Atigah Dziwornu aka Adonis, Atti Kodwo Fiagbe and Godwin Adzowu.
They have been charged with nine counts of conspiracy, treason felony, participating in the campaign of a prohibited organisation, causing unlawful damage, stealing and rioting with weapons.
Their pleas were not taken by the court and they were remanded to reappear on November 23, 2020.
