Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has stated Ghana will be ready to host the 2023 African Games in August.

He made the statement after launching the National Fitness Day at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The initiative is to promote exercise and fitness among Ghanaians and promote community sports and recreation.

Ghana will host the 13th edition of the multi-sports competition held every four years, with existing facilities such as the University of Ghana Stadium undergoing major renovations.

On the Aquatics Center that is being built from the ground up, the Minister bragged about the project’s grandeur stating: “It is going to be the top aquatics center in Africa because we are going to have a 10-lane competition pool. Even Birmingham [host of the 2022 Commonwealth Games], they have [an] eight-lane competition pool. We are going to have a 10-lane competition pool, a warm-up pool…all these facilities are currently under construction.”

He added: “We are pushing the constructors to finish on time so I can confirm to you that we are going to host the Games.”

The National Fitness Day will be held on the second Saturday monthly, with the first edition coming off on September 10 in Accra – health walks and aerobics will mark the Fitness Day.

Similar exercises are expected to be replicated in the various regional capitals and communities in Ghana.
