LEGON CITIES vs WAFA

Bottom club Legon Cities’ woes continue in the League as they are yet to win a game. All the excitement with their lavish player signings has died down and the results must come in thick and fast.  A meagre 3 points gained after 7 matches played is nothing to write home about. Team chemistry is one of the poorest so far and conversion in front of goal is no better. Maybe, the route of redemption begins against WAFA, who will not make it an easy game for the Accra-based big spenders.

WAFA have just lost one game in their last 5 matches in the league and have won only one game away from home so far but they will fancy their chances against the bottom placed side of the league. Attackers of WAFA were hungry for goals in their last game against Medeama, bagging five goals against the westerners. Daniel Lomotey got the Premier League’s first hattrick of the season. He, along with his teammates will be licking their lips as they face the defence of Legon Cities.

MEDEAMA vs ADUANA STARS

Coming into this game from a crushing defeat against WAFA in Game week 6, Medeama will be looking to re-start their campaign when they host Aduana at home. The four goals conceded must be canceled out by any means possible. The Yellow and Mauves have been a pale shadow of themselves and must tighten their defence if they want to take all 3 points against Aduana Stars.

Aduana Stars on the other hand, are unbeaten in their last 4 matches. Claiming a huge victory against Accra Great Olympics. That victory will be a boost to their morale as Olympics were in scintillating form. Yahaya Mohammed is still on song and will be threat, as they look to maintain their unbeaten run in their next fixture against Medeama.

BECHEM UNITED vs KING FAISAL

Second from the top of the table meets the second placed team from the bottom.

The Nana Fosu Gyeabour park will come alive in this match week 8 fixture as “wounded” Bechem United face off with strugglers King Faisal. The “Hunters” are coming into this game after suffering a humiliating 6 – 1 defeat against glorious Hearts of Oak in their previous game which was their first defeat of the season. Their home venue is gradually becoming a fortress as they have a 100% game record there. Coach Danso and his team will come all guns blazing to make sure King Faisal is rooted in the relegation zone.

King Faisal have an impossible task of securing a win in this fixture as they have one of the poorest defences in the league. Although the team has potency upfront, their poor defence always lets them down and no antidote has been sought to curb that glaring weakness. A win for them will most likely be the biggest shock of the season so far.

GREAT OLYMPICS vs ASHGOLD

It will be crunch encounter as Accra Great Olympics face off with Ashanti Gold SC at the Accra Sports Stadium for game week 8. Olympics are unbeaten at home this season and will look to keep that run going. They have not lost a home game against Ashgold in the league and with an impressive home run going on for them, their record against their next opponent will be maintained. The defense of Accra Great Olympics will have their work cut out for them as they come up against a free scoring Ashgold who have scored 12 goals this season. Olympics are 6th on the league table with 11pts.

Ashanti Gold SC have not won away this season and coming up against an Olympics team that have an impressive home record, they will have to put in their all if they want to take anything out of this game. Out of their 5 previous league meetings, Ashgold have won 3 and lost 2. With both losses coming away from home, they will look to break that jinx this season. They have averaged 2.4 goals per game this season and with their in-form player Hans Kwofie and McCarthy Appiah, Olympics will be in all sorts of problems. Ash Gold are 4th on the league table with 12pts.

BEREKUM CHELSEA vs INTER ALLIES

Both teams have all to play for in this fixture as their struggles continue.

Berekum Chelsea will take a good look at their position on the table to strategize to see off the threat from Inter Allies in this fixture. Have recorded only one win so far this season, nothing but a win will be disastrous for the “Bibires”.

Inter Allies, coming from a victory in their last fixture against an impressive Techiman Eleven Wonders team, are in high spirit to get a second win after the departure of coach Henrik Lehm. A win will be an unexpected blow on the part of Berekum Chelsea as they can find themselves in the relegation zone.

ELEVEN WONDERS vs KARELA FC

Eleven wonders host league leaders Karela United in Match Day 8. It will be an insurmountable task to defeat Karela United after managing just one win in the league so far. The team’s promise is very conspicuous. Not so for the results they churn out. Kwayie Simms, their captain has commenced light training after an injury, and it remains to be seen if he will be included in the game day squad. Coach Ignatius has his work cut out for him and his mettle will have to show.

New Year League leaders Karela United, will seek to strengthen their grip on the top of the league by defeating Techiman based Eleven wonders. Form is on the side of Karela and they will certainly look to hike up their positive goal difference in this match. It will not come easy in Techiman but ‘Passioners’ definitely have what it takes to cause a stir.

DREAMS FC vs EBUSUA DWARFS

Dreams FC are nothing short of desperate at the moment, as they wallow in the relegation zone after seven matches. With just two points from their last five games, the Dawu outfit have been nothing short of shambolic and that was clear in the game against King Faisal (draw) and a home loss to Kotoko. Glaring chances fell to the like of Abel Manomey and Joseph Esso, after a nigh-impressive start to the season.

Dwarfs are also not going through their best patch this season. They have gathered seven points out of a possible fifteen, scoring six and conceding seven goals overall this season. One thing they must be wary of is that Dreams FC are no pushovers at home. Only Kotoko have been able to record maximum points in Dawu. To overcome that hurdle, the Cape Coast lads need to rely on the likes of Obed Bentum, who got that crucial equalizer against Accra Great Olympics.

ELMINA SHARKS vs HEARTS OF OAK

Elmina Sharks welcome Accra Hearts of Oak to the Nduom Sports Complex in what is destined to be a keenly contested encounter. Coach Yaw Acheampong and his charges come into this fixture with a spectacular home record, haven maintained an unbeaten run in over a year and a half while dropping just two points in their three fixtures this term.  The Elmina lads will be sweating over the fitness of anchor man Richard Mpong who was stretchered off in their last home victory against Inter Allies and has contributed in a major way to the team’s positive run this season. Benjamin Tweneboah and Issaka Mohammed who ride on home form are sure to step up to the occasion. They however come up against one of the few teams to have picked up all three points at the said venue in the past.

Papic’s football seems to have reignited the Phobian spirit after winning 3 of their last 4 games, leaving them top of the form charts while young talent Umar Manaf has contributed to 4 goals in the last 5 games – the most amongst his teammates. Fresh from recording the season’s highest victory against the then unbeaten Bechem United, the Phobians come into this game in high spirits. They will however be relying on summer signing Victor Aidoo who recorded his first two goals in their last game. Emmanuel Nettey will still be out through injury. Two sides with reasons not to lose, make this a Goliath vs Goliath encounter. With that said, expect both teams to match each other almost equally in all areas of the pitch.

ASANTE KOTOKO vs LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS

Fresh from the debacle of Omdurman, it remains to be seen if Kumasi Asante Kotoko will be able to rise from the ruins to present a reliable side to face Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium. Covid-19 may have allegedly ravaged the team in some ways but that is not an excuse to their demanding fan base. A draw will not be countenanced, let alone a defeat at the hands of Liberty. An away point at a struggling Medeama the last time out, brought into question the dedication to the club by the players. Stand-in coach Johnson Smith will have a tough job on Monday.

Dansoman based Liberty Professionals added on to the woes of struggling Legon Cities in that confidence boosting one-nil win at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman on match day seven. That win propelled them into 8th place, a point above the match day opponents, Kotoko, albeit the latter has an outstanding game. With just two wins this season, Liberty’s bid to end up in the top four places will be done a lot of good if anything can be earned out of this game.
