Renowned Broadcast Journalist with the Despite Group, Afia Pokua has thrown her weight behind defeated aspirants taking back ‘donations’ they had made to delegates before the recently held New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries, relying on the proverb which translates into English as “what is not bought is not paid for”.
There are several reports of defeated aspirants going back to delegates to take back cash or gifts they had given to them for their votes.
Most popular among them is the Assign North losing candidate who has gone back to the delegates to take back some 230 bicycles he had ‘donated’ to them so they could elect him as the parliamentary candidate for the area.
Madam Pokua, who is always a celebrated philanthropist, says that she supports this move:
“By the grace and mercy of God we are alive this week. As for the MPs collecting their money and gifts after losing dier, I support paa. Anya ant) a, anya antua,” she laughed off on social media.
In all some 40 incumbent Members of Parliament lost to new parliamentary candidates.

Chairman of Parliament’s Communications Committee Fredrick Opare Ansah
Chairman of Parliament’s Education Committee William Quaitoo
Chairman of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee Ben Abdallah
Chairman of Parliament’s Government Assurances Committee Collins Owusu Amankwaah
Chairman of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committe Alex Agyekum
Also, Vice Chairman of Parliament’s Agriculture Committee Abraham Odoom
Vice chairman of Parliament’s Roads Committee Kofi Brako
Vice chairman of Parliament’s Trade and Industry Committee Ato Panford
Other notable Members of Parliament who play key roles in the law making house including Ahmed Arthur, Nana Akua Afriyie, Vincent Sowah Odotei, Okyem Aboagye, Joe Mensah, Ama Sey and Kennedy Kankam have also lost their seats in the race.
