Just In: All Workshops, Conferences, Religious Activities Must Be Suspended — Akufo-Addo

Live updates: Ghana turns to God in prayer over coronavirus

Local News

The entire nation is seeking the face of the Lord today as officials fear the state could be bartered by the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.

The virus has already killed two persons out of the 53 who tested positive for it over the past couple of weeks.

Its voracious appetite has been evident in the last few months as it has claimed the lives of nearly 19,000 globally and the count is ongoing.

Today, Wednesday, March 25, the whole country – irrespective of religious, political or social affiliations – is praying for Divine intervention to halt the fast pace at which the virus, also known as COVID-19, is spreading in the country.

This followed the declaration by President Akufo-Addo for the nation to fast and pray for the country.

In an interesting twist, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram Samuel George has written to the Speaker communicating his absence from the house over threats of COVID-19.

In a letter copied to the leadership of the house, Mr George explained that the decision is borne out of a conviction that Parliament is “failing to exercise its truly intended role in crisis moments like this. I hold the strongest conviction that we are pandering whilst the flames that may engulf the Republic are being stoked.”

Also the government of Ghana has put in a request for a Rapid Credit Facility from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to mitigate the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

IMF’s African Department Director, Abebe Aemro Selassie revealed that the request from Ghana was received last week.

But it seems Ghana may likely find a solution for affected persons for Covid-19 if all measures put in place by the regulatory agencies goes as well as expected.

Professor Abraham Kwabena Anang, the Director at the Noguchi Memorial Medical Institute, told JoyNews that locally produced food supplement, COA FS is proven to be an immune booster which may help in the fight against Covid-19.

Also, one more person has tested positive for coronavirus in Ghana. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 53 with two deaths.

All the fifty-one (51) confirmed cases are receiving treatment in isolation.

Meanwhile the General Overseer of Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC), Reverend Ransford Obeng, is urging Christians to take part in today’s fasting and prayer session declared by President Akufo-Addo.

According to the preacher, the most important thing faith-based organisations can do to help the country as it battles the dreaded coronavirus pandemic is to pray.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.#NationalDayOfPrayer

Social media users are encouraging each other to pray with a trending National Day of Prayer hashtag

Here’s a prayer by the Founder of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, asking for forgiveness and healing for the land of Ghana and it’s people.

“Today, as we turn from our wicked ways [and] as we repent, as we humble ourselves [and] as we pray, may God hear from heaven and forgive all of our sins; the sins and the inequities of our fathers, our mothers, our great grand fathers and mothers, the sins of our bloodlines, the sins of our ancestors and the sins of our youth.

“May the bloodshed for the remission of sin be invoked and may the blood speak for all of us and the land before the throne. For without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins.

“So we pray for the remission of all of our sins and the sins of the land and our fathers by the blood that was shed. The blood that ‘speaketh’ better things than the blood of Able; the blood that ‘speaketh forgiveness, redemption, pardon and not judgement [and] not revenge.

“Let that blood speak for every family of this land the families of nations, continents and communities in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
