Medical Fees: Major Challenges for Rape, Defilement Victims

Articles

While the govt and opposition fight over the reasonability of joining a world wide protest under the name black lives do matter, a plague that has been with us as a year continues to rage on. Each years young girls are defiled and or rape by men. So can barely walk but yet suffer this ignominious assault on their being.

Justice for these victims is none existent because as part of evidence to be adduced in court to prove the guilt or otherwise of an accused person, a medical report is required. The state does not provide money for this obtaining the report and therefore the parent or guardian is left with the onerous task of finding this money. Because of poverty this report is never obtained. The victim has to live with whatever damage may have been caused while the suspect walks free grinning from ear to ear looking for the next victim.

It is a travesty of justice that this area has escaped the attention of all the First Ladies we have had. The ministry of women and children’s affairs likewise seems not to be bothered. Mps ministers clergy big famous etc all know about this but none has called for a state sponsored solution which is that such medical reports should be at the cost of the state. If we fight against child trafficking etc.

If we fight for the girl child and tout our achievements this omission is a big dent in any success that has been chalked. As a matter or urgency therefore the state must make such medical examination to be at its costs and not that of the victim. The time to act is now.

If we should see our First Ladies work together this is one area they should put aside all their political differences and fight for the girl child and woman.
