Nana Addo nominates UCC lecturer as MCE for Prestea Huni Valley

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has nominated Dr Isaac Dasani as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly in the Western Region.

Dr Dasani is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economic Studies of the University of Cape Coast.

In a memo to announce the nomination and signed by the Minister of Local Government and Rural  Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, the Regional Minister has been instructed to conduct an election for the assembly members to confirm Mr Dasani’s nomination.

“His Excellency the President in accordance with article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, Act 936, has nominated Dr Isaac Dasmani as Municipal Chief Executive for Prestea-Huni Valley Municipal Assembly in the Western Region. In view of the above, the Hon. Regional Minister for Western Region is requested to liaise with the Regional Electoral Commission to conduct the confirmation process of the nominated Chief Executive.”

Dr Isaac Dasmani was nominated among other competitors including Mozart Kweku Owuh, the outgoing MCE and Lawrence Blay Awonia.

Article 243 of the constitution states that “there shall be a District Chief Executive for every district who shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting at the meeting”.

The District Chief Executive shall preside at meetings of the Executive Committee of the Assembly, be responsible for the day-to-day performance of the executive and administrative functions of the District Assembly.

He or she will be the chief representative of the central government in the district.
