The Omanpe Junior High School in the Aowin District of the Western region has reportedly been turned into a galasmey site following a decision by the chief to offer it as part of an agreement.
According to reports by adomonline.com the chief of the town, agreed to add the school premises as part of a barter trade which eventually will saw the school turned into a galamsey site.
Speaking in an interview with the media, the Chief of Omanpe, Nana Oppong Panyin II debunked any rumors of ill-motive in the giving away of the land to the miners.
He argued that he only gave the land away for the best reasons which will help the town.
According to him, he gave the school away to be used for mining because a drain behind the school had become a death trap, including the chief’s palace, which gets flooded anytime it rains.
“The company came to our rescue and offered to divert the waterways to resolve the flooding issue which I agreed to and offered part of the land in exchange upon their request,” he said.Latest News In Ghana. Click Here To Read Our Latest News Stories
