Stop shedding crocodile tears – NDP to Mahama, NDC

Politics

The National Democratic Party (NDP), the party formed by Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on Monday, 23rd November 2020 cautioned the National Democratic Congress against what it claims to be the shedding of crocodile tears over the demise of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

According to the General Secretary of the NDP, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, when Mr. Rawlings was alive, John Mahama and the NDC disrespected him and desperately wanted to silence him.

And now that he is no more, they want to utilise his death to galvanise support for their failing political campaign ahead of the 2020 general elections.

He said: “We are troubled that some of these same persons, upon the demise of President Rawlings, now seek to lead in mourning the man; they have begun to shed crocodile tears.  They spent thousands of dollars to sponsor videos made in Washington DC by one Kelvin Taylor, who is tipped to be Information Minister in the event of a Mahama comeback, to insult President Rawlings in words, some of which we dare not repeat, and posted them all over the world through Facebook, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms”.

Mr. Frimpong also accused Mahama and the NDC of endorsing the alleged misdeeds of Kevin Taylor against Mr. and Mrs. Rawlings.

He also accused the NDC is taking advantage of the death of the husband of NDP flagbearer, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings to resurrect the NDC’s “dead campaign”.

“With what he did with the demise of former President Mills, he should not be allowed to do the same with the death of our beloved, former president Rawlings. And Ghanaians should not oblige to that. The hypocrisy of the NDC when Jerry John Rawlings was alive, [was such that] John Mahama desperately wanted to silence him and now that Rawlings is no more, Mahama finds it expedient to utilize his death to galvanize support for his weak base within the NDC rank and file and the country at large to salvage his 2020 campaign which is going nowhere.”

“Suddenly, the individuals within the NDC under the current leadership of John Mahama who publicly vilified Rawlings have rediscovered a new voice proclaiming themselves to the true adherent of his ideals and those who used foul languages against Rawlings are now hailing him.”

Nana Konadu still in the race

Meanwhile, the party says its flagbearer, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings had not pulled out of the upcoming presidential elections.

“This is fake news and it should be regarded as such. Our leader has not given any information to that effect,” Alhaji Frimpong said.

Earlier reports claimed that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings had withdrawn from the race due to the death of her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings.
