LIVING WORD DEVOTIONAL

THE THORNS IN OUR HEARTS

Morning Devotion

“And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
(Matthew 13:3‭, ‬7 KJV)

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
(Proverbs 4:23 NLT)

In the parable of the ‘Sower’ Jesus talks about thorns which chokes the word from being FRUITFUL.

Thorns are the product of a destructive plant specie which grow alongside normal plants, and compete for the same nutrients the good plants count on for growth and fruitfulness.

Plants which produce thorns are difficult to identify at the onset. They grow rapidly, tie their roots to those of the real plants and intertwine themselves to the growing plants. In the process, they choke the real plants and curtail their fruit bearing.

In the explanation of this parable, Jesus said that men who operate by the thorny heart type receive the potent and unadulterated word in a heart that is burdened with the cares of the world and deceitfulness of riches.

These two factors, which all men are confronted with, have the capacity of turning man’s heart away from God.
They are a threat to spiritual fruitfulness. The solution to these two factors is to surrender them to God, who in turn gives man rest and peace in heart and soul. The only option the believer has is to get rid of all the thorns in the heart, that’s the guarantee for the believer’s fruitfulness.
