Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has fulfilled a promise he made to the Muslim community in the Bolgatanga Municipality during his 2016 campaign rounds in the Upper East Region.
In 2016, the leadership of the Muslim community appealed for support from Dr. Bawumia to pay for a parcel of land they intend to use as burial ground for muslims, since the current cemetery is running out of space.
Ahead of the visit of the Vice President to the Upper East Region, two cheaques were presented to the leadership of the muslim community by the Zongo Development Fund in fulfilment of the promise he made.
The two cheaques, one being an amount of GHc200,000.00 is the personal contribution from Dr. Bawumia and the second one being an amount of GHc230, 000.00 from the Zongo Development Fund, bringing the total to GHc430, 000.00 which is the cost of acquiring a 22 acre land for burial purpose.
On Friday, September 11, muslims at the Bolgatanga Central Mosque prayed for Dr. Bawumia and the government when he rounded his two days tour with a prayer session.
Dr. Bawumia has once again assured that the NPP-led government will help to complete the Bolgatanga Central Mosque which has been under construction for over 10 years.
Earlier the Vice President visited some persons who have been displaced in the Anateem Community in the Bolgatanga Municipality as a result of havoc caused by recent flooding in section of the Bolgatanga Municipality and the Upper East Region.
Dr. Bawumia donated some relief items including mattresses and blankets and food items and also made a GHc10, 000.00 cash donation to enable the displaced persons to quickly get back to their normal times.
The Vice President accompanied by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, the Deputy Road Minister, Anthony Kabu also paid a courtesy call of the Senior Pastor of the Desert Pastures branch of the Fountain Gate Chapel at his residence in Bolgatanga for a close door meeting, which insiders said it was towards the search for other ways of developing the region and the human resources.
