Very soon Ghanaians will be able to board flights using the Ghana card.

Speaking on Wednesday, 13 October 2021, Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia announced the mark of a milestone for Ghana as the country was officially received as the 79th member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

He pointed out that the International Civil Aviation Organization has duly accepted the usage of the Ghana card as an electronic passport.

Based on what he said, the country’s major identification generated by the National Identification Authority (NIA) will be allowed as a source of identification. In this case an electronic passport for international travels.

He added that diasporan Ghanaians will then need no visa to travel back to Ghana.

He emphasied that this will operational by the end of the first quarter of next year. This means the Ghana card will then be globally recognized as an e-passport.

Aside providing a unique identity for Ghanaians, the issuance of the Ghana card has provided Ghana with a database that will be the anchor for all future transactions.
