Election 2020

Four persons have been arrested after a shooting incident at a voter registration centre in the Awutu Senya East constituency in the Central Region.

The incident occurred at the centre situated at the Step to Christ polling station, according to Citi News’ Central Regional correspondent.

Reports indicate that the shooting occurred when the MP for the area, Mavis Hawa Koomson, visited the centre.

Some motorbikes were also burned at the centre.

The MP allegedly demanded that the registration centre should be moved from inside the school to outside; a request that was rejected some persons around.

It is unclear why she made such a demand.

In the process of the confrontation, it is believed that gunshots were fired.

The EC officers have since halted the registration exercise.
