BIG DADDY

Blog Motivation

This morning I was thinking of the title to name this blog…lo. I finally got this! I am sure you will agree with me why I chose this, after reading.

I had a conversation yesterday with my friend about the goodness of God, and this inspired me to write this blog. I have come to believe that as humans, we will all someday experience our ‘down moments’. For some it might take a day or two while others it will take long. But, how you respond to the situation is what you should consider.

There have been times I have wondered if God has a measure of showing goodness to particular people. You see person A, having great opportunities when he does not stress very much as compared to person B, who puts in all the efforts: hard work, prayers, fasting, faith etc. yet, he does not get entirely what he wanted in his season of waiting. I understand everyone has his/her season, but sometimes it feels some people are fortunate than others. Regardless, in good or bad times, we are encouraged that God is still good.

Throwback

Last year when the ban on the lockdown was lifted in Ghana, I resumed work some few weeks after. That morning while I sat behind the taxi pondering over how the world was taken by surprise with the pandemic, I saw a little boy of about 4 years old, holding the hand of his mother while they waited to cross the street. There was traffic from my side of the road so I was able to see the boy and his mother. I grew curious to hear what the boy was telling his mum so I leaned closer to the door and heard him shout in our local dialect (twi) “Mummy! Daddy says he will buy me a bicycle!”. He kept repeating the phrase and I was drawn to the radiance on his face as he said it. The mother just kept nodding with her eyes fixed on the road for the right time to cross. Even when they were crossing, this little boy kept repeating the same phrase over and over again, till the taxi I was sitting in drove past.

In less than 3 minutes, this little boy gave me a word of hope I really needed. I pictured myself as the little boy and God as the father. This little boy was so confident that his father will buy the bicycle. As to whether he would go home to meet the bicycle that day, or he would get it on his birthday or it will take a long period, he didn’t seem bothered about when the bicycle will come. As long as his father had promised, he was sticking to that! Just because it is his father, he believed he was getting his gift. Why was he so confident in his father, I pondered. My conclusion came to the fact that, there have been past instances this boy’s father has made a promise and he delivered. Based on that, this boy was so sure he was getting his bicycle. Wow!

I haven’t always been confident waiting on God’s promises like this little boy. Regardless of how many times Holy Spirit will nudge me to remain calm and have faith, there have been times I have grown out of impatience or doubted God’s capability. The funny part is when God finally answers a particular prayer request at the time he deemed appropriate, and I will bow my head in shyness (literally…lol) because he overwhelmed me!

One of the prayer I have kept telling God since the beginning of 2021 is for him to help me build complete faith in him. Sometimes it’s not easy, I know! Sometimes you feel alone. Sometimes it feels as if there’s no ending to the challenges or unpleasant encounters you face. I had the opportunity to read over the story of Job in the Bible again because it is the topic I am teaching my children in Sunday school. Sometimes it feels humanly impossible to have a man like Job in our dispensation. Going through all the rough times ad yet still remained faithful to God? But as long as Job was able to do it, I believe I can too with the help of Holy Spirit.

As Christians, we believe God is our provider and biggest amongst other gods. He is your father, who will provide for you, all that you wish for. It’s all about the attitude and your perception about him. He is in fact, our BIG DADDY! The daddy who knows our need even before they become thoughts in our minds (Mattew 6:8). He is the daddy who goes before us, to clear our paths from the enemy’s plans (Deuteronomy 31:8). He’s the daddy who constantly loves us even when we turn down his love (1John 3:1). He’s the daddy who says, he forgives your sins and remembers them no more (Hebrews 8:12). He’s the daddy who acts on his promises and never returns to him empty (Isaiah 55:1). Which human can be all this for you as God does? You need to have total confidence in God that he will come through for you. Believe it! Confess it! Act it! God is our Big Daddy because he supersedes every ability than our earthly fathers, spouses, boyfriends/girlfriends, family, jobs, interests, etc. See him as the father who will go all out to be good to you.

Just because he is God, he will still be good to you! Anytime you feel discouraged, heartbroken or confused, just remember you have a BIG DADDY with you, who will keep his promise.
