GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE 2021/2022 MATCH DAY 27 – SATURDAY FIXTURES

WAFA VS KOTOKO

Struggling WAFA will welcome top-of-the-table Asante Kotoko in what will be the return of Coach Prosper Narteh-Ogum to the side he guided to a most respectable 3rd place finish, last season. The story for WAFA has been less than convincing since he left. Their form has seen them plummet to the relegation zone, after gathering only 5 points from their last 5 games. With 7 games left, a change in form is desperately needed to prevent the erstwhile and revered academy powerhouse from relegation. Captain Boakye-Yiadom is constantly in the discussion on a transfer to Hearts of Oak. His constant man-of-the-match performances will keep drawing attention, but his team needs to get what is important – the wins, especially as they play at home.

The league leaders have faltered in their last two games, with teams below them gaining some ground on them. The last time they lost to a side struggling at the bottom was against Elmina Sharks. If the patchy form continues, the threat from teams below them will be more glaring, causing them to lose ground in the title charge. There have been calls for Coach Narteh-Ogum to field experienced players such as Amankona and Fabio Gama on a regular. His handling such internal dynamics will go a long way to positively impact their season or derail it altogether. The interests in a team such as Kotoko are humongously diverse and ego-filled, from the playing body to the stakeholders of the club. He will be banking his hopes on the likes of Etouga Mbella, who is seeking to etch his name in the goal scoring annals of Kotoko’s history.

ELEVEN WONDERS VS OLYMPICS

Techiman-based Eleven Wonders have amends to make when they welcome Great Olympics to the Nana Fosu Gyeabuor park. They were taught a bitter lesson in Bibiani, after the debutants put a single goal past them last week. That was after their heroics against 2nd placed and high flying Bechem United. The reality check is one that should prep them up for the encounter against the wonder club today.

Olympics have taken only 4 points out of a possible 15 in their last 5 games. They were in for a shout for top-3 but have had to settle for between 4th and 8th place in the last couple of games. The spark is vanishing for the wonder club, but that is why they always pack a surprise element in their arsenal. Maxwell Abbey-Quaye and the offensive charges seem to be short on confidence but if anyone is to bring them out of the rut, there is no better person than coach Annor Walker to do the job.
