KING FAISAL VS OLYMPICS

Two teams with separate missions, lock horns in this thrilling match week 29 fixture.

King Faisal’s hope of survival is gradually dwindling as they have lost 3 straight games, conceding a total of 7 goals in the process without scoring a single goal. A win can briefly move them out of the relegation zone as they sit precariously on 17th on the table. A loss can compound their fight for survival.

Olympics have shown that they are still interested in challenging for the league title and are seeking to secure a win to keep the heat in the title chase intense. Coach Annor Walker and his boys served fans of the premier league an exciting 1-1 drawn game against city rivals Hearts of Oak in their last game, placing them 4th on the table and 5 points behind leaders, Hearts.

Performances like this will definitely keep the teams above them to put up their best since they will gladly take advantage of any slip by any of the teams to move up the table. The Dade boys are ever ready.

BECHEM UNITED VS BEREKUM CHELSEA

Bechem United have one of the poorest forms in the league so far. With just 1 point gathered from a possible 15 and their impeccable home form getting shattered, the lads from Bechem have all to play for. They had spent much of the season in the top half of the season. All that jolly ride came to a grinding halt and they have now had to feed off scraps. Tough tackling Boubacar Doumbia and his fellow defenders have a lot of work to do to keep Berekum Chelsea at bay in their hitherto impregnable fortress.

Berekum Chelsea run riot over King Faisal in their last game, smashing them by five unanswered goals. Their home ground, where that pummeling took place, has added on to their points for survival since they looked quite abysmal during certain points in the season. They will fancy their chances against their hosts, and hope to ride on the crest wave of that sumptuous win against King Faisal. Both teams are on 34 points apiece, with Berekum Chelsea having the upward momentum.

WAFA VS DREAMS FC

Two teams with their title ambitions still technically alive, lock horns over the weekend in what could either make or unmake one of them in what has been a season full of promise for both. The teams sit 1st and 2nd on the goals scored table and have produced some scintillating football this season. For Wafa, this should be an opportunity to make good again on their Red Bull Arena ‘fortress’ tag which hit another snag after stuttering against Liberty  Professionals, though it was an away game at home. It will be no different a mission for Dreams who lost to the same opponent at the same venue some few weeks back. Coincidentally, the only fixture both sides have lost in their last 5 games each.

Wafa though are on a roll at home with 5 wins in 6. Another win here moves them right above their opponent and will stamp their recent rapid resurgence. Dreams on the other hand have proved resilient in staying in the top 5 all season. It could have been better for the Dawu based side if not for their wretched away form of a single win all season thus hampering their progression. Coming up against a side they are yet to beat on the road after 4 visits makes this crunch tie more difficult than they would have wished for. But with just 6 games left of the season to play one cannot rule out any possibility .

ASHANTI GOLD VS DWARFS

AshantiGold fell to a narrow defeat in their derby match against city rivals Asante Kotoko in Match Day 28. Due to some contested refereeing decisions, they lost the match by a slender margin. The Miners were upbeat about ending their 2 game losing run but unfortunately things didn’t go as planned. In Matchday 29, they have a chance to bury the hatchet and provide a masterclass performance to bring back some joy into the hearts of their beloved fans. Ebusua Dwarfs are set to visit the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, they will be greeted with a warm reception which signifies a tough match ahead for the Cape Coast side.

Ebusua Dwarfs are only two point away from the relegation zone. The League is entering its final stretch and they will be looking to churn out some results to secure their status in the league next season. They defeated Aduana Stars in this last fixture at home showing that they still have gas in their engine to fight till the end. The task ahead of them is a daunting one. In addition to this, they have lost their last two away matches by a goal difference to WAFA and Asante Kotoko.

Their bad away record may be the bump on their road to securing their safety in the Premier League this season.

ADUANA STARS VS LIBERTY

Fresh from raw allegations of match fixing, the Ogya boys will have to prove their doubters wrong when they host a seemingly resurgent Liberty Professionals. As the only team yet to lose at home this season, Aduana will hold the Nana Agyeman Badu park dear and will rally as much support as possible. Coach Asare Bediako has not had the best season so far, but will take consolation for being in the top half of the table and try to consolidate that position.

Liberty’s last two games have come well for them as the two wins have pushed them into 16th position. As undesirable as that position is, further positive displays will surely propel them  out of the relegation zone. While at it, they should be wary of the threat posed by their hosts, who are hungry for a win; a statistic which has eluded them for three games and counting.

KARELA VS LEGON CITIES

Karela will lock horns with Legon Cities in their game week 29 match. Karela will feel hard done by as they lost by a goal to nil to regional rivals Medeama.  Karela have scored in their last 7 home games this season and Legon cities defence will have to be at their best if they are to stop Karela from scoring in front of their fans. Karela seem to be steadily building up form and momentum after form plummeted at the beginning of the second half of the season.

Legon cities have hit a rich vein of form coming into this match, picking up 15 points out of a possible 18. They have failed to keep only 2 clean sheets in their last 6 matches. With morale high in their camp, they will be a threat to any team they come up against. Coach Bashir Hayford will have to keep his boys grounded if they are to take anything away from the game.

HEARTS VS MEDEAMA

Accra Hearts of Oak have a lot to play for in this match week 29 fixture as they host 3rd placed Medeama SC. The Phobians are tied on 50 points with Asante Kotoko, who are lurking in 2nd position to leapfrog them to occupy the top spot if they fail to win this match. Hearts have been in some blistering form, winning 5 games in a row and maintaining a clean sheet throughout. Their last game against city rivals ended in a draw making them drop their two-point lead. Coach Samuel Boadu faces his former team for the first time since his departure in acrimonious fashion and would want to prove how good he is tactically.

Medeama SC are seeking to close in on the Phobians at the top as they face off in Accra. The first-round fixture saw them beat Hearts 1 nil in Tarkwa. Coach Yaw Preko’s team have 3 wins and 2 loses from their last 5 matches played. They will indeed be a tough nut to crack for the Phobians. This match will show good display of football and tactics.

INTER ALLIES VS KOTOKO

Bottom side Inter Allies host joint top Asante Kotoko in match day 29. That special fixture for Monday the 14th of June will be influenced by matches up and down the table. While Inter Allies await the outcome of the games of King Faisal and Liberty, Kotoko will be hoping that Medeama do them a favour by picking up at least 1 point against Hearts of Oak. Inter Allies are 7 points from safety and are desperately in need of the points to avoid the drop.

Kotoko on the other hand will hope that their charges pick up some sharpness in their remaining games to overcome all their rivals in this hotly contested championship. Coach Baretto had much to complain about the injuries and illnesses in his camp. His boys have not relented yet from winning the trophy, after they sat back and allowed Hearts of Oak to move past them on the table.
