Choices: At Crossroads

Tuesday Thrills

The ground had served as a good surface for the sun’s rays to rest, as she walked with a cap on her head, humming to the tunes from her headset. She joyfully manoeuvred through the reflection of the sun with her shadow. She could describe this as one of her joyous afternoons, as she danced and jumped to the tunes, till she arrived at crossroads, and was met with what she dreaded most– making a choice as to which path to take.

To her left, there was a really dark path. She could hardly see a thing, but the sounds that erupted from there were creepy. To her right, there was a path with much light, yet a gang of hungry lions and fierce tigers. Straight ahead was a bush that had the sign, ‘Danger Ahead’.

On the battle field with her mind on which choice to make, a young man walked to the junction and attempted to take the left path. She stopped him, and asked, β€œAren’t you scared? Why do you intend to take the path where nothing can be seen?”
The man smiled and said, β€œThere is light at the end of every tunnel. You might probably not see it, but it is not for all to see.” He replied.
She shook her head at him, and watched as he took the darkest path to his destination.

Suddenly, a young lady walked to the junction, looked to her left, then, to her right, then, smiled, as she took the right path. She screamed, getting the attention of the young lady. β€œThere are clearly wild animals on the path which you choose to take!” She exclaimed.
β€œI know what I carry, and Who I Serve.” The young lady shrugged. β€œI may not be Samson from the Bible, but I know I definitely serve the God who silenced the lions meant to eat Daniel.” The young lady said to her, and her eyes widened. β€œDo you want to come with me?” The young lady asked her, but she furrowed her brows and shook her head. The young lady shrugged and took the path on the right.

She was watching how the young lady walked passed some of the wild animals with less or no fear at all, when suddenly, another young man walked past her and took the straight path. β€œThere is danger where you’re headed!” She shouted. β€œI can clearly read. Whatever life demands, should happen. Life has always been unfair. Let me make it fair by presenting myself to its treachery.” He said to her, and turned, and took the straight path.
β€œSir!” She called, but he didn’t even bother to turn.

Another, young lady walked to the junction, but immediately returned. β€œWhere are you headed to ma’am? Is there another way?” She asked the young lady, but she shook her head. β€œI am going back to where I was.”
β€œWhat about where you are supposed to be?
β€œI can’t take the risk.” the young lady said, and walked away– back to where she was.

She reached for a pen and paper from her backpack and wrote:

Catherine Pulsifer once said, β€œLife is all about the choices we make, and how the direction of our lives comes down to the choices we choose.”
Choices are made based on who we are or who we desire to become. We could possibly be the choices we make. Some are hopeful, full of faith or risk takers. Others are, probably, fed up, depressed, faithless, hopeless or ‘retrogressors’. Actually, I might not be any of the above listed, as I choose to stand at the junction. However, I’m not a ‘progressor’ either. Maybe, one day, I will change my choice, but it could be too late.
I’m at crossroads, and it’s certainly not the best place to be.

She laid the note on the ground, placed a stone on it, and laid down at the junction– at crossroads.
