Integrity Moss

Tuesday Thrills

During the hours of twelve and one, when the sun had let out its grin and the sky was clear, giving off the reflection of the sun’s shiny ray, Philip Jones drove to Moss Incorporated to interview the Man of the Year, Nolan Moss, the CEO of the company. When he arrived at the reception, he was warmly received by the receptionist who led him to Nolan’s secretary, where he was graciously hosted with a cup of tea and was engaged in an intriguing discussion with the secretary about the admirable personality and distinct charisma of Mr. Moss, before he was received by Nolan Moss himself.

After exchanging pleasantries, Philip asked his first question– a question which seemed to have adequately communicated exactly what Philip needed for his article. “Who would you say Nolan Moss is?” Philip asked, and Nolan smiled.

“Nolan Moss is a Christian, but however, a human with many pleasures.” Nolan simply stated, and Philip stared, wanting more information.

“Kindly explain further. Help me get the understanding.”

“After my first degree, I had to go on a job hunt. I was devastated, because it was difficult. There were no vacancies, and companies had decided to suppress me in a corner– a corner where its environs were contaminated for my breathing. The majority made it clear that they had enough people, and they were not recruiting. However, others asked that I turn a blind eye to what makes me who I am. I was asked to inflate numbers, deflate them, or perhaps, omit them. On about my umpteenth search, I had lost confidence in being a permanent salary-earning worker, so when I walked into the company I had labelled as my final hunt, and the superior told me what was on the table or what they required of me; just as the others did, I was willing to say yes, but I told them I would give it a thought.” Nolan shook his head, and sipped his glass of water. “Sometimes, the fact that I considered dishonesty makes me disappointed, but most importantly, it humbles me, because it reminds me of how human I am. The recruiter didn’t forget to let me know that the slot was limited, so I walked to the famous Haluna Park, and pondered over my desire to accept a dent in my image, than maintain it. My eyes stared at the fountains in the middle of the park, and that has been my lifetime lesson. One of the fountain’s tier produced water that came gashing out and splashing into what seemed like an unfiltered pool of water. The other fountain tier struggled to let down water, but as it came out gently, it managed to create a clean pool of water; though, relatively small compared to the impure one, it was the purest I had seen. I decided to struggle through my tier like the latter, and make for myself a pure pool of water, so I declined the offer, and immediately won myself a slot at another company who had no vacancy earlier, but had fired a manager who was caught embezzling funds. Since then, I have held on to my principles and defined myself by them, and not by what society describes as the new normal. So yes, I’m human, with all the desires to be wealthy and great, however, I’m a Christian and I long for nothing else, but to follow My Master’s demands. Well, there might be conflicting desires residing in me, but there is an overall peaceful conviction that leads me on.

Philip stared in awe at the man before him, and closed his notepad.
“Is there any way I could possibly allow the Christian in me to take over?” Philip asked more personally than for his article.

It starts with a choice of unwavering conviction.” Nolan answered.
