ADUANA STARS vs KOTOKO

The biggest game this weekend will see the Ogyamma face the Kum apem aa, apem beba lads in Dormaa. This fixture is arguably one of the biggest on the footballing calendar in the country. Aduana’s owner and bankroller, Nana Agyeman Badu II, who celebrated his birthday within the week will ask for nothing but victory. If that happens, it will be the first ever double over the porcupine warriors by Aduana. Their line-up, made up of the likes of Samuel Bioh will seek to orchestrate this victory.

Kotoko have not been as perilous as their ambitions in the last few weeks. The draw against Liberty proved that there was a lot of work to be done to annex the trophy. Coach Baretto has arrived from his native Portugal and handled the final training session, readying the contingent for that highly anticipated encounter. The goalkeeper switch which has seen Razak Abalora benched, and skipper Felix Annan brought back into the sticks will be tested again in a more antagonistic atmosphere. The latter’s place between the sticks will be maintained or given a rethink based on the result and performance at Dormaa.

LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS vs DREAMS FC

Liberty Professionals, after that crunch game and performance against Kotoko, succumbed to a defeat against Dwarfs. They couldn’t ride on the momentum to get something out of the Cape Coast encounter, unfortunately. Probably, the away nature of the game was the stumbling block and in view of that, hosting Dreams FC on the Sogakope Astroturf may inure to their benefit. Coach Sellas Tetteh and his able assistant in Coach Sinason will need to inspire confidence and the eventual win for Liberty.

Dreams FC Have one of the longest streaks of being unbeaten this season, and coach Vladmir Viric is aware of that run. As to whether that will play a role against Liberty is another question. The two teams have met 7 times since 2016, 2 of their games have ended in stalemate with Dreams FC winning 4 with Liberty winning 1. Away form for Dreams FC is one that will not attract attention. They have lost 3 and drawn 2 in their last 5 away matches, but Dreams will bang their hopes on they being the highest scoring team so far with 38 goals.

BECHEM UNITED vs ELMINA SHARKS

Bechem United welcome Elmina Sharks in their cagey match day 27 fixture. There are fewer teams who are as comfortable at home, as Bechem United is. Until recently, they were unbeaten at home, only to lose that accolade when the phobians visited. Though their away form pales in comparison with their home form, Elmina Sharks will not be a pushover contest. Will their new ‘baby’ in the limousine purchased to be used by the players within Bechem give them enough motivation to grab all 3 points?

The Sharks lost at home to King Faisal in a disappointing show last time around. The last thing they needed was a trip to a difficult ground such as Bechem. To make matters worse, midfielder Isaac Donkor’s red card still stands after appeals were made, and they will sorely miss his presence. That said, the sharks have nothing to lose in this game and can catch the hosts unawares. Their hosts have lost 4 of their last 5 games.

ASHGOLD vs LEGON CITIES

The miners are still at their inconsistent best with 3 defeats coming on the sides of a draw and a win in their last 5 games. With their interim manager declaring that they have take their sights off the league and focusing on survival, it is imperative that they capitalize on home advantage. With objectives lowered, pressure should ease on the Obuasi giants, ready to face Accra-based Legon Cities.

Legon Cities lifted themselves up the table to 11th when they defeated Aduana Stars in Accra. That spark of motivation from Jonas Attuquaye and co is yielding some positive results and that momentum is needed to continue the ascent up the table. It seems they have also put aside the brouhaha surrounding who will handle the team at the helm – a prerequisite to safeguard their status in the Premier League.

WAFA vs DWARFS

Wafa gained an impressive away point at Kotoko last matchday. A result which surmounted their incredible recent form of 4 wins in the last 6 games and 7 points in 3 consecutive away games. A feat only matched by their afore mentioned host. The Sogakope boys are now even closer to the top than the relegation zone. Though only managing a single clean sheet in their last 5 games, they have managed to score at least in every game during that process, underlining their recent explosive football. At the forefront of their recent upsurge have been spearhead Justus Torsutsey with 4 in 5, anchorman Augustine Boakye and tricky winger Abdul Basit who won the league’s best player award for April. Against their next opposition in Dwarfs, the academy boys are yet to falter at the Sogakope park which hosts this fixture incidentally with 4 wins out 4 in their past meetings.

Dwarfs might have had a light shine in their tunnel as they sparked back to life with an all-important 3 points against fellow relegation strugglers Liberty Professionals last weekend. With just 7 games left to play, the abontuabontua boys will have no room for error as they sit just above the relegation zone in 15th with just 28 points in 26 games. Dwarfs have found wins had to come by with 2 in their last 10 games. Away from home, it has been a horror show; 6 games without a win (5 losses and a draw). Their past travels to Sogakope have seen them lose by the same score line (0-2). It will be very much routine if the streak continues.

KING FAISAL vs ELEVEN WONDERS

This battle between two relegation threatened teams will be nothing short of exciting as King Faisal hosts Techiman Eleven Wonders. Faisal’s last game saw them put up a spirited performance to win against Elmina Sharks against all odds away from home. The win pushed them out of the relegation zone, with just two points. Interestingly, this match venue is the original home grounds of King Faisal’s opponents, Eleven Wonders. King Faisal are seeking to move further away from the relegation zone and will fight tooth and nail to achieve that. The first round fixture saw Wonders beat Faisal by a lone goal. Revenge definitely will be on their minds.

Techiman Eleven Wonders have all to play for to start a survival fight in the league. After painfully losing to Hearts of Oak at home in their last game, they need to quickly bounce back to fight to move out of the relegation zone. This fixture is a great opportunity for them as they play this match as the away team but in their home stadium. They are currently 2 points behind their opponents who sit just a place above the relegation zone. This is a must win for them since they have quite some tough fixtures ahead in the coming match days.

INTER ALLIES vs MEDEAMA

Bottom club Inter Allies are competing against the drop. All indicators are against them, except for the goal difference. Theirs is better than Bechem United and 1 goal worse than 8th placed Aduana Stars. If they are able, by some stroke of hardwork mixed with fortune, rise slightly up the table, they may not have to contend with goal difference as a problem. They face Legon Cities and Kotoko after this match and that makes this match even more important.

Medeama, as a result of the draw between Olympics and Karela, have dropped into 5th place, same number of points as Karela and a point behind Olympics. They will fancy their chances against the bottom club to push their agenda back at the top of the league. A win will send them into 3rd place. A reported bust up between coach Yaw Preko and an unnamed player could take a turn for the worse if things do not go as planned in Dawu, where Inter Allies have pitched camp to play the rest of this season’s games.

HEARTS vs BEREKUM CHELSEA

Current league leaders Accra Hearts of Oak will be seeking to make it 5 wins in a row as they host a Berekum Chelsea side, yet to win an away fixture this season. This is the first time Hearts has occupied the top spot of the table since 2016 edging out their fierce rivals Kotoko, who are second on the log due to goal difference. Hearts so far has lost once at home all season, with that defeat coming from city rivals Accra Great Olympics in that match day 11 fixture.

Berekum Chelsea has a huge task on their hands in this fixture as they travel to face Hearts. They are yet to win an away fixture this season and their current form speaks volumes about the team. The first round fixture at Berekum ended 0-0 and Chelsea need to work their socks off, to get at least a point from this game. Chelsea is placed 13th, just 4 points from the relegation zone.

Hearts must remind themselves that Berekum Chelsea cannot be written off and must be given all the respect they deserve.
